Patna: Tension erupted between two communities in Sahibganj area of Muzaffarpur after a Mahaviri Jhanda procession was attacked with stones when it was crossing near the Minapur village of Rajepur, officials said.
According to police, a group of rioters pelted stones on the Jhanda procession passing through the Minapur village, causing injuries to a number of people including policemen on Thursday.
Among those who sustained injuries in the pelting incident are Station House Officer [SHO] of Rajepur Out Post and a Sub-Inspector of the police along others. The injured were swiftly rushed to nearby healthcare facilities for treatment.

As per reports, stones were pelted from the roof top of a building when the Jhanda procession was crossing near a mosque, leaving the participants in a panicked state.
A video of the incident has also gone viral on the social media in which a group of people could be seen throwing stones on the procession.
The incident led to tension between the two communities, prompting swift deployment of police personnel from the nearby police stations in Minapur. Senior officials of the police also rushed to the spot and took control of the situation by interacting with both the parties.
The police following the incident have initiated an enquiry into the matter and people involved in the stone pelting act are being identified.
Meanwhile adequate deployment of police personnel has been made in the locality to prevent any further escalation of the tension. The matter is being investigated further by the officials.
