Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on July 13 highlighted the crucial role of the BrahMos missile in Operation Sindoor, stating that its effectiveness has sparked significant global interest, with 14 to 15 countries showing intent to procure it.
Speaking at an event in Lucknow, Rajnath Singh unveiled a statue of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Bhanu Gupta at National PG College and released a commemorative postage stamp in his honour.
“Just a few days ago, I inaugurated the BrahMos airspace integration and testing facility in Lucknow. You must have seen how the BrahMos missile performed exceptionally during Operation Sindoor. Since then, around 14 to 15 countries have expressed interest in acquiring it from India,” Rajnath Singh said.
He further announced that BrahMos missiles will now be exported from Lucknow. “I believe this facility will boost our country’s self-reliance in defence and generate employment. My aim is to attract more industries here so that both Lucknow and the entire state can develop rapidly,” Rajnath Singh added.
Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s industrial growth, Singh attributed the surge in investment to improved law and order and strong infrastructure. “Transformative changes are underway in infrastructure. Expressways, airports, metros, and medical colleges are reshaping the development landscape,” he said.
Rajnath Singh, the Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, paid tribute to Chandra Bhanu Gupta, lauding his simplicity, sacrifice, and nationalist vision. “Chandra Bhanu Gupta ji began as a humble freedom fighter and earned the love of millions through his dedication, sacrifice, and leadership,” he remarked.
Singh highlighted Gupta’s nationalist vision, unwavering integrity, and his opposition to some of the economic policies of then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
