West Champaran: Four personnel of Sahashtra Seema Bal (SSB) sustained injuries in an attack launched by a mob of over 200 people led by smugglers along the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar’s West Champaran district, police said on July 12.
The incident took place in the wee hours of Friday at Brahm Seema Chowki under the jurisdiction of Jitna police station, leaving four jawans of the SSB 71st battalion injured.
As per the report, a mob of around 250-300 people including women and children attacked the personnel after the latter tried to seize a urea-laden vehicle at around 3AM in the morning.
The scuffle lasted for around 20 minutes, allowing smugglers to cross the borders with the consignment. The personnel managed to disperse the mob only after they fire shots in self-defence amid heavy stone pelting.
A few urea bags were also seized by the personnel, however the smugglers eventually succeeded in taking the vehicle into Nepali territory.
The police following the incident has registered a case against 250-300 unidentified alleged Nepali residents at Jitna police station. According to officials, the attackers were largely from villages across the border. The matter is being probed further by authorities.
