In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the Hindu community in Bangladesh, a 16-year-old boy, identified as Johnny Das, was brutally stabbed to death while bravely attempting to stop an armed intruder from breaking into his home. The heartbreaking incident took place on Thursday, July 3, in Habiganj town, located in the Sylhet Division of northeastern Bangladesh.

Johnny Das, a promising young student who had recently appeared for his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination, became an unintended victim of violence when he spotted an unidentified man attempting to force entry into their residence. Without hesitation, Johnny raised the alarm and woke his elder brother, Sagar Das Joy, and together, the two brothers confronted the would-be robber in a desperate attempt to protect their family.

What followed was a violent struggle. The intruder, armed with a sharp weapon, viciously attacked the two brothers. Johnny Das was stabbed multiple times, sustaining severe injuries to his chest, while his brother Sagar was also wounded in the assault. The attacker managed to flee the scene, leaving the family devastated and the young boy fighting for his life.

Johnny was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival, unable to save the young life that had shown such courage in the face of danger. His brother, Sagar Das Joy, is currently receiving medical treatment at Habiganj Sadar Hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.

The tragic death of Johnny Das has not only left his family shattered but has also sparked grief and fear within the local Hindu minority community. Many are expressing concern over the rising incidents of violence and lack of security for minorities in various parts of Bangladesh.

Speaking to local media, Habiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajal Sarkar stated, “We suspect the attack took place during a robbery that went wrong. Further details will emerge after a full investigation.” As of now, the assailant remains unidentified and at large, with police confirming that an intensive manhunt is underway.

Johnny’s family, friends, and community members are now demanding swift justice and immediate action to apprehend the killer. The boy, remembered as cheerful and hardworking, had aspirations for a brighter future after completing his SSC exams—dreams now tragically cut short by a senseless act of violence.

The incident has once again raised urgent questions about the safety of Bangladesh’s Hindu minority, who continue to face both targeted attacks and criminal assaults in various regions.
