Kerala University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Mohan Kunnummal has disclosed a startling piece of information via a Facebook video—that there was a failed attempt within the varsity to conduct a seminar with anti-national content under the Department of Tamil. He received this information from some students.

According to the theme of the proposed seminar, the Pahalgam incident was allegedly a premeditated attempt by the Union Government, led by Prime Minister Modi, to influence the imminent Bihar state assembly elections; it further claimed that the war (Operation Sindhoor) was an election strategy. Dr Mohan Kunnummal stated that this allegation is completely baseless, false, and malicious.

The VC stressed that such an attempt to organise a seminar in a higher educational institution is highly dangerous, especially when the country is engaged in a successful campaign against the perpetrators of terror—Pakistan. He emphasised that the terrorists who wiped the sindoor from the foreheads of our mothers and sisters are being decisively eliminated by our armed forces. And yet, anti-national forces attempted to conduct an anti-national seminar within an academic institution in Kerala.

The Vice Chancellor said he took a strong stance on the matter and instructed the University Registrar to stop the seminar and demand an explanation from the Head of the Tamil Department regarding how such an event was permitted. He has since learned that the seminar has been completely cancelled. He is now awaiting a report and has stated that stringent action will follow against those responsible for this anti-national initiative. It will serve as a warning to all anti-national elements and their future endeavours.

The VC has already reported this grave issue to the Chancellor of the Universities (the State Governor), who is understood to have referred the matter to central agencies.

Dr Kunnummal added that we must take every care to protect the nation from domestic enemies. While foreign enemies will be defeated by our brave soldiers, domestic enemies must be dealt with by the people.

Speaking to Organiser weekly, Dr Mohan Kunnummal said that the organisers had planned the seminar based on an article published in a Tamil journal. The translation of the article can be summarised as follows:

“They are still conducting the election campaign in Bihar using the Pahalgam killings. So, were the Pahalgam killings not carried out with the knowledge of the Modi Government? This question naturally arises. They are using anti-national propaganda for fascist conspiracies. Under these circumstances, the revolutionary-democratic forces in the country must take responsibility for defeating the conspiracies of the Modi regime.

Fascist Trump’s tax policies and the failures of fascist forces have intensified the crises they face. They are misusing the Pahalgam killings and invoking nationalism to overcome the said crises. Modi plans to exploit this for his electoral gains. The same applies to the ongoing protests across the country against his actions, including the Waqf Amendment Act.”

Dr Mohan Kunnummal is a nationalist academician currently serving as the Vice Chancellor of the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), and he holds additional charge as the Vice Chancellor of Kerala University.

Students’ politics at Kerala University is largely dominated by Leftists and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI). Several members of the teaching and non-teaching staff also align with Leftist ideologies. This attempt to conduct the seminar must be viewed against that backdrop. However, the no-nonsense Vice Chancellor has decisively thwarted the plan.

Meanwhile, reports from Thiruvananthapuram, where the Kerala University headquarters is located, suggest that the main organiser of the seminar has approached the University authorities with an apology, pleading to be spared from disciplinary action. He now faces the possibility of strict penalties, which could bring his academic career to an abrupt end.
