New Delhi: Just hours after the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, tensions flared up again along the international border, prompting a stern response from India.
In a late-night press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Pakistan had violated the understanding reached earlier in the evening. “For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today,” Misri stated.
The development comes amid the ongoing Operation Sindoor, under which Indian security forces have been maintaining heightened readiness along the western front.
Addressing the media, Misri affirmed that Indian armed forces were fully prepared and had already initiated a calibrated response. “The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations and we take very, very serious notice of these violations. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,” he said.
He further added, “The armed forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the borders along the international border as well as the line of control.”
The government has indicated that despite the ceasefire pact, India will not hesitate to respond firmly if provoked. Security analysts suggest that Operation Sindoor, which is reportedly aimed at neutralising cross-border threats and bolstering border infrastructure, may be recalibrated if violations persist.
