Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in Navi Mumbai for illegally residing in India without valid immigration documents. The arrests came after a May 4 morning raid by the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of Navi Mumbai Police at a residence in the Karanjade area of Panvel.

During the operation, six individuals were found at the location, including two women and a child, all suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals. After document verification, five adults were taken into custody.
Police said three of them had entered India legally but overstayed their visas, while the other two had crossed the border illegally. Further investigation revealed that all five had obtained Indian identity documents through fraudulent means—such as Aadhaar, PAN, and voter ID cards. Disturbingly, three had even secured Indian passports using these fake credentials.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Anna Khatun Akash Gazi (35), who was accompanied by her six-year-old daughter, Alo Khatun Ismail Gazi (31), Istrafil Islam Gazi (25), Kia Akash Gazi (21), and Akash Latif Gazi (40). Additionally, the sixth accused, Mohammad Ismail Aminoddin Yerulkar, a 52-year-old Indian national, is alleged to have helped the Bangladeshi nationals acquire forged Indian documents and facilitated their illegal stay in the country. Based on initial investigations, he has been charged as a co-accused in the case.
A criminal case has been registered at Panvel City Police Station under the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1950, Sections 3(a) and 6(a), the Foreigners Act, 1946, Section 14(a), and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 318(4), 336(2), 336(3), 338, and 340(2).
