Ranchi: Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit president Babu Lal Marandi on April 1 slammed the administration and the state government over stone pelting incident on women devotees in Kodarma.

The BJP stalwart while terming the incident shameful and unfortunate asserted that the incident reflects the failure of the administration and the state government.

“The stone pelting on the women devotees during Kalash Yatra is not only highly condemnable but also a clear evidence of failure of the administration and the state government,” said the BJP leader.

“It is unfortunate and shameful that mothers and sisters participating in a sacred procession related to the worship of goddess could not get security,” he added.

The former CM further claimed that the situation in the state has become so dire that the Hindu society could not celebrate its festivals with peace. He claimed that the situation in the state has become more worsened than Bengal where Hindu festivals are being targeted.

He made an appeal to Chief Minister Hemant Soren to set an example by taking strict action against stone pelters, stating that it will ensure that all festivals are being held in a harmonious atmosphere.

Significantly, the BJP leader remarks arrived on the heels of stone pelting incident in Kodarma and Giridih of Jharkhand.

According to media reports, while women devotee out on a campaign for a yajna in Chhatarbar area were pelted with stones in Kodarma, a similar incident occurred in Dhariadih area of Giridih district where members of two community got engaged in stone pelting on Monday.

The incident led to a charge up atmosphere in the area after which heavy deployment of personnel were made. The miscreants involved in the incident are being identified by the police.
