Bijapur: Another remote village of insurgency-hit Bijapur district has received electricity for the first time since independence, marking continuation of the state government’s effort to provide development to the far-fledged villages marred by Maoist-insurgency
“The remote village of Timenar in Bijapur district has been electrified for the first time in 77 years of independence under the Chief Minister’s Majra-Tola Electrification Scheme. This remarkable achievement signifies the end of Maoist terror and the dawn of development, peace, and prosperity in the region,” reads an official statement issued by the government.
“Today, light has replaced fear, and hope has replaced despair in Timenar. With 100% electrification of all 53 households, the village is witnessing an unprecedented wave of joy and optimism,” it added.
Located in the Bhairamgarh block of Bijapur district, the remote village of Timenar falls under the Bechapal Gram Panchyat whose residents were deprived of electricity until the government’s electrification drive provided them with much needed relief.
The locals were quick to affirm that the arrival of electricity has not only lifted the atmosphere of fear and insecurity but has also significantly improved their quality of life.
“For the first time, our village has electricity. We no longer fear the darkness of night, and we are free from the threats of wild animals, snakes, and scorpions. Our children can now study easily, and we finally feel part of the path to development,” said the elated residents of Timenar.
With the electrification drive completed, other basic infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, and education facilities are likely to follow suit in the remote locality.
Expressing his delight over the development Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said “Where there was once the shadow of Maoist terror, today the rays of development shine. This transformation is the true victory. The electrification of Timenar signals the beginning of a new era of governance and growth in the remote regions of Bastar. This region is now moving towards prosperity and progress, free from the fear of Maoist violence
It must be noted here that the state government in recent time has electrified many of such remote localities under the flagship Niyad Nelanar scheme, aimed at providing benefits of government welfare schemes to the villagers of remote areas.

Earlier 51 houses of the Punskota village of Bijapur district were also provided with electricity under the scheme for the first time since independence. The village falls under the core insurgency zone.
The government had earlier run an electrification drive at the remote village of Regadgatta, around 20 kilometres from the Bijapur district headquarters. Here, electricity was restored after a notable gap of two decades. The village was deserted during the time of Salwa Judum as people had fled due to the Maoist violence.
Significantly, the government has set a target to electrify more than 50 villages under the scheme in Bijapur district alone. This comes amidst the state government making numerous efforts to bring major transformative change into the lives of people residing in remote, inaccessible, and Maoist infested villages of the Bastar region.
