A CPM councillor has alleged that CPM’s Municipal Chairperson, Divya Reji Mohammed, has links with the drug mafia. The incident has been reported from Adoor Municipality in the Pathanamthitta district. Councillor Roni Panamthundil, a CPM Local Committee Member, has claimed that the chairperson, who is also superior to him within the party, has an unholy nexus with the drug mafia in the municipality. He alleges that despite his repeated demands, the chairperson has not taken any action against a particular shop that sells drugs. The CPM councillor’s allegations against Divya, the municipal chairperson and also his (Roni’s) party colleague, have stirred a hornets’ nest in the state.
Roni had complained to the municipal chairperson that drug dealing was taking place in a shop near the KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) junction. However, no inquiry has been carried out so far. Consequently, Roni made a serious allegation against the municipal chairperson through a WhatsApp message. The message stated: “You are helping drug peddlers and according patronage to them.” This message has been telecast by Malayalam TV channels.
Despite the CPM councillor’s serious allegations against the CPM municipal chairperson, the party’s district leadership remains silent, largely due to internal disputes within the party, especially after the recently concluded district and state conferences.
However, the most pressing concern is the nexus between drug peddlers and the CPM. The spread of drug consumption is now severely affecting the student community in the state, making it impossible to hush up the issue.

Multiple reports have exposed drug seizures across Kerala, repeatedly linking them to CPM leaders and party members. Yet, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has failed to take decisive action, raising serious questions about his government’s stance on the growing drug menace.
