‘Hidden in Mathematics’: Harvard scientist links numbers to God’s existence

Dr Willie Soon, an astrophysicist, claimed that he can prove the existence of God with mathematical formula. He presented his formula on the Tucker Carlson Network. This idea has sparked controversy among scientists and theologians about the existence of a higher intellect. The scientist suggests that the mysteries of the universe may be written not just in the stars, but also in the fundamental fabric of mathematics itself.

Dr. Soon’s novel approach is based on advanced mathematics, which the renowned scientist believes, when combined with creative reasoning, can lead to a convergence of religion and science. His theory is based on the ‘fine-tuning argument’, which says that the laws of physics are so perfectly in sync with the requirements for life to exist that it cannot be a coincidence. For example, life as we know it would not exist if the value of the empirical physical constant known as the gravitational constant had been even slightly higher or lower than it is now.

Dr. Soon’s formula refers to the notion first proposed by famous physicist and Cambridge mathematician Paul Dirac in 1963. The mathematician was previously recognized as a staunch opponent of religion who strongly denied the existence of God.

He cited British physicist Paul Dirac, who predicted the existence of “antimatter” in 1928, a counterpart to the electron. Four years later, in 1932, Carl Anderson discovered the positron, a particle of the same mass as an electron but with a positive charge. This was soon described as miraculous, showing Dirac’s ability to foresee its existence prior to experimental proof.

In 1963, Dirac made a startling declaration in a scientific magazine, claiming that the laws of nature were so deeply embedded in mathematical beauty and power that they could only be attributed to higher intelligence.

“It seems to be one of the fundamental features of nature that fundamental physical laws are described in terms of mathematical theory of great beauty and power, needing quite a high standard of mathematics for one to understand it,” Dirac wrote.

Who is Dr. Willie Soon

Dr. Willie Soon, a Malaysian astrophysicist associated with the “Center for Astrophysics. Harvard & Smithsonian,” is widely recognized for his research on solar radiation and its influence on Earth’s climate. He has conducted extensive studies emphasizing the role of solar variability in driving climate change, often challenging the mainstream consensus that human-generated carbon dioxide is the primary cause of global warming. His notable works include “The Maunder Minimum and the Variable Sun-Earth Connection” and various scientific papers highlighting the influence of solar activity on climate patterns. Dr. Soon’s research has significantly contributed to global debates on climate change, sparking discussions about alternative causes of global temperature fluctuations.

Scientists Who claimed God’s Existence

Dr. Soon’s remarks echo the arguments made by philosophers and scientists such as Richard Swinburne and Robin Collins, who formulated the “fine-tuning argument” suggesting that the universe’s precise conditions point to an intelligent designer.

Several notable scientists throughout history have accepted the existence of God, citing their scientific discoveries and observations. Sir Isaac Newton, famous for his principles of motion and gravity, held that the universe’s flawless order mirrored divine design. Albert Einstein, who was not religious in the traditional sense, saw a higher intellect behind the universe’s precision, famously saying that the more he studied physics, the closer he felt to God. Max Planck, the creator of quantum theory, emphasized that science and religion complement each other by seeking to grasp the ultimate truth. Francis Collins, who directed the Human Genome Project, saw the complexity of human DNA as evidence of divine design, calling it “the language of God.”

Similarly, Georges Lemaître, a proponent of the Big Bang Theory, concluded that the universe’s origins were consistent with the concept of divine creation. Nobel laureate Werner Heisenberg and philosopher Antony Flew, motivated by the intricate architecture of the cosmos and the fine-tuning of natural laws, both came to believe in a higher power. These scientific geniuses, despite their various backgrounds, discovered strong proof of God’s existence via the lens of science, implying that the riddles of the universe frequently point to divine intelligence.
