Chennai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has exposed the misleading claims made by the DMK government regarding the delimitation exercise, putting an end to the false narrative spread by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. The DMK, known for its diversionary tactics, attempted to stir panic by falsely claiming that Tamil Nadu would lose Lok Sabha seats due to delimitation. However, Amit Shah categorically clarified that no such decision has been taken, proving that the DMK’s claims were nothing more than a political stunt to mislead the people. Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai also slammed Stalin for spreading fear and misinformation, questioning the need for an all-party meeting when no official announcement on delimitation had been made.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK. Stalin had declared that delimitation was a direct threat to the rights of southern states. Following a high-level cabinet meeting, Stalin announced that an all-party meeting would be held on March 5 in Chennai to discuss strategies to resist what he termed a “demographic injustice” that could severely impact Tamil Nadu’s political representation.
Speaking after the cabinet meeting, Stalin stated, “Tamil Nadu has been forced into yet another struggle to secure its rights. Delimitation is a sword dangling over the southern states. Tamil Nadu, which is a leading state in all development indicators, will be severely affected.” He emphasized that the democratic process should not punish states that have successfully managed population growth while contributing significantly to national development.
Taking to social media platform X, Stalin posted, “The democratic process should not penalize states that managed population growth, led in development, and made significant contributions to national progress. We need a fair, transparent, and equitable approach that upholds true federalism.”
The Union Government has proposed to undertake a delimitation exercise in 2026 based on the population figures, a move that could potentially lead to a reduction in Tamil Nadu’s Lok Sabha seats. The proposed exercise could benefit states with higher population growth while penalizing those that have successfully controlled their population, raising concerns among southern states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh.
However, Stalin’s sudden move has triggered sharp reactions from various quarters, with critics alleging that the DMK government is using the delimitation issue as a diversion from more pressing concerns.
A prominent social media user, JVC Sriram, questioned Stalin’s urgency in taking up the issue, stating, “Neither the Central Government nor the Election Commission nor the Courts have made any announcements or issued any notifications on delimitation. Why is the DMK Govt taking this up? What are they trying to divert? Another Diversionary Tactic.”
Another netizen added, “The man @annamalai_k is asking the right questions – Who told seats will be reduced? Why an all-party meeting? Why a delimitation debate now? Just a diversion! Thirupparankundram – Anti-EVR & Seeman – Anti-Hindi, now Delimitation!”
A third user pointed out that the sudden shift in focus to delimitation came after the failure of the DMK’s protests against the National Education Policy (NEP). “After realizing that their protests against NEP2020 have lost steam and only their ministers are getting exposed for hypocrisy, @mkstalin and his camp suddenly jumped to #delimitation of constituencies when nobody actually talked about it.”
Amit Shah categorically says, Tamil Nadu will not lose LS seats due to delimitation
In a strong rejoinder to misleading allegations of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in categorical terms that there would not any reduction in number of Lok Sabha seats of any states including Tamil Nadu.
In the light of TN chief minister convening an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss possible reduction in the number of Lok Sabha seats in the state under the delimitation exercise, Amit Shah assured on26th (Wednesday) that the delimitation exercise would not affect the southern States as new seats would be allocated on a pro-rata basis and that these States would only get more seats as a result.
He said this while inaugurating new buildings for BJP offices in Coimbatore, Ramanathapuram, and Tiruvannamalai districts at a function held in Coimbatore, Shah said the southern States would not lose a single seat to delimitation.

These offices will become the nerve centres of the people's movement against the corrupt, anti-national, and atrocious rule of the DMK govt.

Amit Shah said “CM (Stalin) and his son (Udhayanidhi Stalin) are trying to mislead the people of Tamil Nadu by raking up some issues. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government has made it clear in Parliament that the redrawing of parliamentary constituencies based on population levels, on pro-rata basis, will not alter the proportion of Lok Sabha members from southern states, PM has made it clear that no state will lose its Lok Sabha seats due to delimitation. Instead, Tamil Nadu and other southern states will only gain constituencies on a pro rata basis.”

A rough calculation using India’s population as March 2025, according to projections by the Census office show that if no major state is to suffer a decline in Lok Sabha seats but their shares are to reflect population shares, the size of LS would have to expand to about 790.
He said “Tamil Nadu CM always says that Modi govt has done injustice to the state, I am here to tell him – if you are truthful, reply to what I am asking in front of the people of the state.

Coming down heavily on CM Stalin, Amit Shah said Stalin as well his son Udhayanidhi are finding new issues to divert public attention from corruption and other issues. Stalin was misleding people of Tamil Nadu with false allegation on fund allocation. NDA govt. has given Rs 5 lakh crore in 10 years whereas UPA govt gave only 1.5 lakh crore in as many years. In addition, NDA has also given Rs1.43 lakh crore for infra development projects in TN”.
Amit Shah said, “Law and order situation in Tamil Nadu was the worst in the country and women were not safe in universities. Drug mafia has the blessings of the government; illegal mining is rampant in the State. The DMK ministers have a “Masters’ degree” in corruption”.

TN BJP Chief Annamalai Slams Stalin For Spreading Misinformation On Delimitation
Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai took to X to refute Stalin’s claims, calling the CM’s concerns baseless and driven by fear-mongering. Sharing a speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from October 2023, Annamalai wrote, “To the attention of the fear-mongering CM of TN Thiru @mkstalin avl, This is our PM Thiru @narendramodi avl’s speech on delimitation in October 2023. Why spread a lie on delimitation exercise when no means and methods for conducting the exercise have been released, Thiru @mkstalin?”
In a sharp critique, Annamalai even questioned Stalin’s mental fitness to lead Tamil Nadu, drawing a comparison with the U.S. President’s mandatory mental health check-up. “If you’ve seen the U.S. President, he undergoes a mental health check-up once a year. I’m not saying anything wrong about the Chief Minister. A doctor certifies and publishes a document stating that the U.S. President is fit to lead America. Today, after seeing the Chief Minister’s Facebook post, I’m beginning to doubt whether he is fit to lead Tamil Nadu. When no one has given instructions, spoken about, or expressed an opinion on this matter, why is an all-party meeting being called?”
“Today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has visited Coimbatore…In his speech, he clearly brought out in the open the anti-people policies of the DMK government. The corruption and dynastic politics are taking Tamil Nadu backwards…Not only that, our CM tells one lie one day next week he moves to another lie. CM MK Stalin got caught in the 3-language formula where the lie was about Hindi imposition. This week, he’s moving to delimitation. He’s saying the southern states will lose…PM Modi made it very clear a long time ago that we will not follow the Congress model of doing any anyaya (injustice) to southern India. This is NDA’s government. We will do Nyaya (justice) to all states,” he told ANI.
He also referred to Amit Shah’s speech in Coimbatore on Wednesday, February 2025. “Today, Union HM Amit Shah has clarified where the delimitation will happen; when the seats increase, it is going to be a pro-rata (proportional increase) increase for all states…It will be a pro-rata up based on if and when the delimitation happens. So that no state is going to lose anything from where they are currently,” he said.
