Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday, February 26 announced that the periodic film ‘Chhava’ will be tax-free in Chhattisgarh, enabling more people to experience the inspiring saga of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

CM Sai stated that the decision to exempt ‘Chhava’ from tax is aimed at connecting the people of Chhattisgarh with India’s glorious history and instilling a sense of patriotism and valour among the youth. The announcement was made during a media interaction following the Rajim Kumbh celebrations.

“Chhava’ is not just a film; it is a tribute to our historical traditions, courage, and self-respect. Every citizen should watch it to understand the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj,” he said.

CM Vishnu Deo Sai reaffirmed his government’s commitment to promoting films that inspire society and preserve cultural consciousness. He emphasised that Chhattisgarh will continue supporting historical, cultural, and patriotic films to ensure that future generations remain connected to India’s glorious past.

Earlier, the historical period drama Chhaava, which stars Vicky Kaushal and Akshaye Khanna, was declared tax-free in Goa. The decision came shortly after the Madhya Pradesh government made a similar announcement on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary.

Sharing the announcement, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said “It gives me pleasure to announce that the movie Chhaava, based on the life and sacrifice of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will be tax-free in Goa. The movie, exploring the valour and courage of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj for Dev, Desh, and Dharma, played by Vicky Kaushal, is bringing the glorious history to the screen.”

“The sacrifice of the second Chhatrapati of the Hindavi Swarajya, who valiantly fought against the Mughals and the Portuguese, is an inspiration for all of us,” he added.

Meanwhile, the film, directed by Laxman Utekar, has been performing strongly at the box office since its release on February 14. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, ‘Chhaava’ crossed the Rs 200 crore milestone on Thursday.

The film, a period drama, portrays the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Vicky Kaushal impressing audiences with his role as the Maratha ruler. The film also features Rashmika Mandanna and Vineet Kumar Singh in key roles. (ANI)
