Mahakumbh, renowned as the world’s largest religious and spiritual gathering, has also been transformed into Swachh Mahakumbh under the inspiration of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This year, alongside the grandeur of the divine event, multiple Guinness World Records related to cleanliness are being set.
In a historic feat on Monday, February 24, 15,000 sanitation workers participated in a synchronised cleaning drive across four zones of the Mahakumbh Mela, attempting to break a world record. With this, the Uttar Pradesh government and the Prayagraj Mela Authority surpassed their previous record from Kumbh 2019, when 10,000 sanitation workers set a Guinness World Record for mass sweeping.
Prayagraj Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani witnessed the record-setting event, as did OSD Mahakumbh Akanksha Rana and Guinness World Records team officials. Chief Observer and Judge Rishi Nath traveled from London headquarters to oversee the attempt, with audit verification conducted by Neeraj Prakash & Associates Chartered Accountant Firm. Each sanitation worker’s participation was tracked using a scannable wristband system.
Mahakumbh 2025 is making headlines for multiple record-breaking achievements. On one hand, 63 crore devotees have taken a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam, a world record in itself. On the other hand, the Swachh Mahakumbh Abhiyan, driven by CM Yogi Adityanath’s vision, continues to set new global standards for cleanliness.
As part of this effort, under the guidance of Ganga Sevadut and Sector Magistrates, sanitation workers conducted mass sweeping drives across four key locations—Sector-2 Helipad, Salori Nagvasuki, Arail, and Jhunsi. Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani lauded the initiative, stating that this world record sends a powerful global message about the importance of cleanliness, inspiring greater public participation in sanitation efforts.
Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma emphasized that Maha Kumbh has evolved into the world’s largest religious, spiritual, and cultural event, crediting sanitation workers as the true heroes behind its success. He highlighted their tireless efforts in maintaining cleanliness and noted that the 10 km-long cleaning drive undertaken by 15,000 workers exemplifies India’s commitment to sanitation.
“This record is an extraordinary testament to the dedication and unity of our sanitation workers. It reminds us that cleanliness is a one-day effort and a way of life. Maha Kumbh inspires us to uphold cleanliness every day and move towards a healthier India,” he said.
