Five security forces personnel, including two Levies soldiers and three of the Pakistan Army, were killed in two attacks carried out by Baloch rebels late on Saturday night and in the wee hours of Sunday. At least eight security forces personnel were injured in these attacks. One attack happened in Kalat district, one in Kech district and another in Awaran area where a police post was targeted, according to officials.
Two Levies soldiers were killed and two others were injured when Baloch rebels attacked a security check-post in Balochistan’s Kalat district on Sunday. The attack by rebels was carried out in the Togho Chappar area of Kalat.
The attackers managed to flee the scene after retaliatory fire from the Levies personnel, a spokesperson of the provincial government said, adding that the authorities concerned launched investigations into the militants’ attack.
The bodies of the deceased and the injured personnel had been shifted to a hospital in Quetta for medico-legal formalities and medical treatment, the spokesperson added. The security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to eliminate any other rebels hiding in the area.
Balochistan witnessed a series of attacks on Pakistani security forces late Saturday night, and on Sunday, resulting in multiple casualties. Authorities have confirmed the deaths of five personnel and injuries to eight others in separate incidents across the province, according to a report of the Balochistan Post.
One of the major attacks occurred in Kech district, where unidentified armed individuals targeted a Frontier Corps (FC) outpost. The attackers overpowered the security personnel, causing several fatalities and seizing control of the camp. Reports indicate that the attackers confiscated all available weapons and military equipment from the site.
Militants reportedly targeted a security convoy dispatched to reinforce the attacked FC camp. Officials confirmed that three soldiers were killed and six others injured, including two in critical condition. The slain personnel were identified as Lakhmir, Rana Zahid, and Gul Sunat, all of whom were part of the Dasht Scouts 125 Wing.
In Awaran area, attackers raided a police station and snatched away a weapon from a security official. However, no casualties were reported in this incident. The authorities have since deployed additional security personnel to the area in an effort to catch the unidentified gunmen who had carried out the weapon snatching.
Following these incidents, security forces have launched extensive search operations in the affected areas to track down the attackers. Incidentally, Balochistan has long experienced security challenges, with insurgent groups frequently targeting military and law enforcement agencies. No group has so far claimed responsibility for three attacks mentioned above.
Meanwhile, what has become almost a daily affair now, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned a terrorist attack on Levies check post in Kalat. He prayed for the deceased personnel and for the bereaved families to bear the loss with fortitude, PM Office said in a press release. He also paid tributes to them and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
Sharif said the “terrorists were the enemies of the development and progress of Balochistan province’’ and reiterated that their designs would not be allowed to succeed.
Pakistan witnessed a sharp rise in violence due to repeated attacks by Baloch rebels in Balochistan and Tehrik Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in January 2025. In the first half of the month of February too, the attacks have been relentless leading to multiple casualties among the security forces.
In 2024, several officers of the Pakistani Army were killed in the attacks in Balochistan and KP, something that was not witnessed in earlier years. This year too, the trend has continued as more attacks get reported leading to casualties among the security forces almost on a daily basis.
