In the early hours of February 2, a tragic incident unfolded aboard the Raipur SF Express near Odela, in Peddapalli district of Telangana. Santosh Mahto (57 years) from Rampada, Katihar district, Bihar, accidentally slipped from the moving train. Santosh had been working at a bakery in Hyderabad, to support his humble family back home.
His untimely death left his 19-year-old son, Rohit Mahto, and the rest of the family devastated. However, in the midst of this overwhelming grief, timely assistance came through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), as Rohit himself is a Swayamsevak.
Upon receiving the tragic news, Swayamsevaks from Rampada quickly relayed the information to RSS functionaries in Delhi. This initiated a chain of compassionate actions, showcasing the Sangh’s extensive and heartfelt network.
Santosh’s body was kept at Godavarikhani government hospital while arrangements were made. Local Swayamsevaks in Godavarikhani and Ramagundam stepped in immediately, providing not just emotional solace but also crucial logistical and financial assistance.
In coordination with Swayamsevaks, Rohit Mahto traveled from Bihar to Hyderabad by air and then proceeded by road to Godavarikhani on February 3. Around 3 PM, he performed the last rites of his father, surrounded by fellow Swayamsevaks who stood by him as an extended family. Although his immediate family remained in Bihar, the Swayamsevaks ensured that all formalities were carried out with dignity, overseeing the cremation with deep respect and unwavering support, standing in solidarity with the Mahto family during their profound loss. The journey back to Bihar was made possible by the tireless efforts of local Swayamsevaks, who continued to offer support every step of the way.
Sangh Swayamsevaks managed every detail with utmost care and respect, ensuring the family’s burden was eased during this difficult time.
Further details regarding the case are being coordinated between the RPF and Telangana state police.
