Davangere: In a shocking turn of events that has left the community of Channagiri in Davanagere district reeling, police have arrested Mohammed Amjad(50), the owner of Amar Medical Shop, following the circulation of a distressing video depicting the rape of a schoolgirl. The video, which has gone viral on social media platforms, prompted swift action from law enforcement, underscoring the urgent need to combat sexual violence and exploitation.

The arrest of Amjad was grounded in a complaint filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Shashidhar at the Channagiri police station. Following the complaint, a case was registered against the accused under several sections of the law, including sections 67, 67(a), and 67(b) of the Information Technology (IT) Act, as well as sections 77, 294, and 64 of the BNS ACT-2023. Furthermore, charges were brought under sections 4, 6, 14, and 15 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The Central Crime Investigation (CEN) police took prompt action, resulting in Amjad’s arrest and subsequent remand into judicial custody.

Amjad, a resident of A Block in Devaraj Aras Layout, has built a dark reputation in the town of Channagiri, where he operated his medical store. Reports indicate that he preyed upon vulnerable schoolgirls and women who visited his pharmacy to purchase medicines. He used manipulative tactics to lure his victims under the guise of providing medical assistance, only to exploit them horrifically. The released video, showcasing his illicit acts, has not only sparked outrage but has also raised concerns about the safety and protection of women and children in the area.

The nature of the crimes attributed to Amjad is chilling. Multiple sources indicate that he had previously engaged in sexual acts with numerous women, recording them without their knowledge or consent. This heinous activity came to light only after the video involving the schoolgirl went viral, prompting the authorities to take immediate action. It has since been revealed that over 60 obscene videos had accumulated on Amjad’s mobile phone, showcasing his exploitative behavior and alarming disregard for the dignity of his victims.

The community’s response to these revelations has been one of horror and outrage. Many local organizations are calling for protests to condemn Amjad’s actions and demand justice for the victims. The menacing pattern of predatory behavior exhibited by the medical store owner has sparked discussions about the safety of women and girls in Channagiri, as well as the need for stronger protections and preventive measures against sexual violence. Activists and concerned citizens are advocating for heightened awareness and education regarding consent and the tracks that lead to the victimization of young women.

Furthermore, the videos reportedly captured more than just the assaults; they reveal a disturbing insight into Amjad’s obsession with documenting his perverted encounters. It has been disclosed that he transferred these videos to a laptop to relive the horrors of his actions and satisfy his depraved pleasure. This behavior marks a significant escalation in criminal activity that not only blights individual lives but also tarnishes the very fabric of the community.

In terms of legal proceedings, the police have warned that disseminating videos relating to the victims would be met with strict measures, given the laws protecting the privacy and dignity of survivors of sexual crimes. Authorities have emphasized the criminality associated with spreading these videos and urged media outlets and the public to refrain from sharing such content, prioritizing the sensitivity of the situation and respect for the victims.
