The tragic suicide of a 30-year-old woman on December 11, 2024, has brought to light shocking allegations of betrayal, exploitation, and forced conversion. The victim’s father has filed a police complaint, accusing Faraz Attar, a resident of Shahdara in Delhi, of trapping his daughter in a deceptive relationship, converting her to Islam, sexually exploiting her, and pressuring her for property worth Rs 20 crore.

The Complaint and Allegations

The elderly father, a former businessman and resident of the Kavinagar police station area, alleged that Faraz lured his daughter into a relationship by pretending to be unmarried. Over the years, Faraz exploited her financially, emotionally, and physically, allegedly taking lakhs of rupees under the pretext of clearing debts.

The father’s complaint states that his daughter’s behaviour began to change significantly over the past few months. On November 14, he found her observing Islamic religious practices, which deeply distressed him. The mounting stress reportedly caused him to suffer a brain stroke, requiring hospitalisation in Delhi.

While the father was in intensive care, Faraz reportedly took advantage of his vulnerable state, bringing his daughter to the hospital and pressuring him to approve their marriage. According to the complaint, Faraz coerced the elderly man into signing a document stating he had no objections to the interfaith marriage, claiming it was on his brother Kasif’s advice, who posed as a Supreme Court lawyer. The victim’s father alleged that Faraz also made him swear not to disclose the relationship to other family members.

Escalating Manipulation and Betrayal

The father further claimed that Faraz had been grooming his daughter for years, even arranging a tutor to teach her Islamic practices. The complaint suggests that Faraz may have used drugs to manipulate and control her. The woman reportedly underwent multiple abortions, allegedly under Faraz’s influence.

On November 24, Faraz summoned the father and daughter to a hotel in Kaushambi, introducing them to his mother, Mahe Talat; his sister, Sana; and his brother, Kasif. The victim bore all the expenses for the meeting.

By December 5, the woman had prepared documents for marriage, but Faraz kept delaying the date. On December 10, he reportedly introduced a shocking condition: he would only marry her if her father named him as the sole heir to their family’s property. This demand left the woman devastated.

The Tragic End

Unable to bear the betrayal and manipulation, the young woman took the extreme step of setting herself on fire at her Chandrapuri home on December 11.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) City Rajesh Kumar stated, “A case has been registered against Faraz Attar, his brother Kasif, his mother Mahe Talat, and his sister Sana under sections pertaining to forced conversion, rape, abetment to suicide, and other charges. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused.”

The father revealed that his daughter had confided in him about Faraz’s true intentions, stating that he had used her solely for her property and continued to exploit her financially and sexually. The police are also investigating allegations that Faraz drugged the victim to manipulate her behaviour.

Authorities are currently investigating all aspects of the case, including the alleged involvement of Faraz’s family members. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of manipulation and betrayal, leaving a grieving family and a community demanding justice.
