Bhubaneswar: The Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) has been dedicated to Indianising education and fostering a sense of responsibility among teachers. The Mahasangh’s vision fundamentally differs from that of leftist and other organisations in the education sector. It operates under the guiding principle: Rashtra Ke Hit Mein Shiksha, Shiksha Ke Hit Mein Shikshak, Shikshak Ke Hit Mein Samaj (Education for the nation, teachers for education, and society for teachers). This vision underlines its mission to prepare teachers for a pivotal role in transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
At the Odisha State Conference of the Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh held at the Regional Institute of Education in Bhubaneswaron Sunday , the Mahasangh’s National Organising Secretary, Mahendra Kapoor, emphasised the need for every member to further strengthen the organisation. The event was attended by Odisha’s Higher Education Minister, Surjyabanshi Suraj.
In his speech, Kapoor elaborated on the organisation’s guiding philosophy, stating that education is a field that cannot be left solely to the government or administration. Teachers must actively participate in shaping educational policies and should be consulted on crucial matters such as curriculum development. Furthermore, teachers should establish a vibrant connection with every student in their classrooms, addressing any doubts without discrimination. By following this approach, teachers can regain the esteemed status they once held in India’s ancient traditions.
Kapoor also highlighted the association’s efforts to awaken a sense of responsibility among teachers and promote awareness of traditional Indian values within society. He stated that the organisation strives to enhance the skills and talents of teachers. To inspire excellence, the Mahasangh annually recognises two teachers from across the country as “Outstanding Teachers,” motivating others to follow their example.
Teachers’ Role in Nation and Society Building – Surjyabanshi Suraj
Speaking at the same event, Higher Education Minister Surjyabanshi Suraj stressed the vital role teachers play in building society and the nation. He remarked, “Teachers shape the foundation of life from raw clay. To elevate the country to its highest potential, teachers must dutifully and effectively perform their responsibilities.”
Suraj criticised the education policies introduced by the British and Macaulay, which aimed to suppress Indian intellect and produce clerks. In contrast, the National Education Policy introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government seeks to awaken the Indian spirit and lead the nation to unparalleled heights of glory.
Highlighting the transformative power of education, he added, “History bears testimony that education and educators have brought about societal change and guided nations toward a new direction.”
