Wayanad Bye-Elections: Gandhi family’s dubious political character exposed as it takes support from Jamaat-e-Islami

In the ongoing Wayanad bye-election, the Congress party's alignment with the controversial Jamaat-e-Islami has raised questions about its political strategy

The real character of the Gandhi family and the Congress party are coming to the fore in the Wayanad Lok Sabha election. The Chief Minister of Kerala has alleged that the Congress Party is taking the support of Jamaat-e-Islami.

The Jamaat-e-Islami has a controversial character. The Jamaat-e-Islami does not believe in the Indian democratic system and is against it. The activities of the Jamaat-e-Islami organisation are to work towards taking the world to “Islamic rule”. The Jamaat-e-Islami tries to expand its influence by exploiting and promoting fundamentalist elements. The Welfare Party of India is a subsidiary unit of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Taking the support of the Gandhi family from such an organisation indicates a big political churning. Is the Congress Party not confident of Priyanka Gandhi’s victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat? Is the Congress Party not getting enough support from its ally, the Indian Union Muslim League, to win the elections? Is the Indian Union Muslim League trying to weaken the Gandhi family and the Congress party in Kerala in order to strengthen itself and as a result of which, the Gandhi family has to bow before organisations like Jamaat-e-Islami ?

The Gandhi family is apprehensive about Priyanka’s victory in the Wayanad seat. The Gandhi family also silently played political cleavage in Kerala to the main opponent, the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Nilambur Assembly seat two times Left supported Independent MLA P V Anwar had revolted against his parent organisation at the eleventh hour before the Wayanad LS by-poll. Nilambur is an Assembly seat in the Malappuram district within the Wayanad LS seat. P V Anwar is silent on the Wayanad LS seat while his newly formed organisation ‘Democratic Movement of Kerala’ is supporting the Congress party’s candidate in the Palakkad Assembly seat by-poll being held simultaneously with Wayanad. We cannot rule out the possibility of the Gandhi family’s hand in P V Anvar’s dramatic political foray. PV Anwar has a deep influence on the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. PV Anvar has also contested elections from the Eranad assembly seat, which also comes under the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. Besides these, PV Anwar came second in the Ponnani Lok Sabha seat in 2019 by contesting as a supported candidate against the Indian Union Muslim League, the ally of the Congress party in the United Democratic Front(UDF).

Therefore, PV Anwar’s distancing from the Left parties just before the by-polls and his silently supporting the Congress Party is a big development before the Wayanad LS by-poll. We cannot deny that the Democratic Movement of Kerala party was nurtured by the Gandhi family, which this family formed for its own benefit.

After taking support from Jamaat-e-Islami, the Congress Party is no longer in a position to call itself a secular party. It is also a big irony that the Congress Party has been an ally of the Indian Union Muslim League in Kerala for a long time and calls itself a secular party.

It is also surprising that there is not a single Muslim candidate in the electoral fray on Muslim-dominated Wayanad LS seat.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, Asaduddin Owaisi’s party, which contests elections in many parts of the country, is not contesting from this seat in Kerala. The seat is close to his home State of Telangana. If the Indian Union Muslim League can contest elections from Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, the State adjacent to his home State Kerala. Then, is there any secret understanding between the AIMIM and the IUML that these parties do not contest elections in each other’s States or in their strongholds? The Indian Union Muslim League also has no history of contesting elections from Andhra Pradesh or Telangana. Is there any secret understanding between the Congress party and the AIMIM that he doesn’t put a candidate against Priyanka Vadra or Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad in the current and previous elections?
