At a time when, 90 per cent of the world has chosen to ignore the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh, Republican nominee for US President has spoken up in their favour.
Trump said on X, ‘I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a state of total chaos.’

The Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh have been subject to brutal treatment in Bangladesh, following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, who had to flee the country following massive protests by the students. The radical Islamists in Bangladesh who have been waiting for an opportunity to ethnically cleanse the Hindus and make the country an all-Islamic nation seized upon the opportunity following the exit of the Awami League leader.
While the liberals both in India and in other parts of the world chose to ignore the persecution of Hindus and chose to spin false tales about Muslims living in fear in India, Trump’s words has come as a welcome move.
He went on to say, ‘ it would have never happened on my watch. Kamala and Joe have ignored Hindus across the world and in America. They have been a disaster from Israel to Ukraine to out own Southern Border, but we will Make America Strong Again and bring back peace through strength.’
‘We will protect Hindu Americans against anti-religion agenda of the radical left. We will fight for your freedom. Under my administration, we will also strengthen our great partnership with India and my good friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi,’ the former President also said.
Donald Trump signed off by wishing all a very happy Deepawali. ‘ Also, Happy Diwali (Deepawali) to all. I hope the festival of lights leads to the victory of good over evil,’ he said.
His message was received with plenty of love from many. Many thanked him for speaking up for the voiceless Hindus in Bangladesh. Some said that if Trump returns as President then democracy will be restored in Bangladesh.
When India implemented the Citizenship Amendment Act, it did so specifically with what was going with the Hindus and other minority communities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The pseudo liberals were quick to spin a false narrative around it and said that the Muslims had been left out of it. The simple logic was that the Hindus, Christians, Sikhs and Buddhists are in minorities in these Islamic nations and due to immense persecution over the years, India decided to offer them Indian citizenship. The Muslims of these countries were not included for the simple reason that they are not minorities there.
While many world leaders spoke against the Act and condemned India stating that it was demeaning for the Muslims, Donald Trump a very different take on it. When the Act came into force, he was the President of the United States. In fact when the horrific Delhi riots broke out, he was in India attending the ‘Namaste Trump’ event in Gujarat.
When asked about the Act and also the riots in Delhi, Trump saiid that he had discussed the same with PM Modi. He said that the PM had made it clear that he wants people to have religious freedom. On the violence in Delhi, he said, ‘individual attacks those were upto India.’
“We did talk about religious freedom. I will say that the Prime Minister was incredible and he told me that he wants people to have religious freedom. He told me that in India they have worked very hard to have great and open religious freedom. If we look back and look at what’s going relative to other places…they have really worked hard on religious freedom,” Trump had said.
On the Citizenship Amendment Act (CCAA), he said that the he does not want to say anything on that. It is upto India. I hope, it will take the right decision for its people, he had said.
Deafening silence
It is a well known fact that following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, a Muhammad Yunus, a US stooge was made the interim leader. During the turmoil in Bangladesh, it was the Hindus who faced the maximum persecution by the Islamists. However the US under President Joe Biden had maintained a deafening silence during all this.
The US which is the tutor of democracy for the rest of the world chose to remain mum during the violence. During the Modi-Biden talks, there was a gag on the issue and the read out dropped the mention of Bangladesh and atrocities against Hindus.
One of the main reasons why the US had chosen to remain a mute spectator in all this is because it has been in the opposite camp when it came to the close ties that India and Bangladesh had shared. It may be recalled that it had also tried to prevent the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971. Moreover the US has always backed the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) which is known for its anti-India stance.
While the US has welcomed the new regime Bangladesh under its stooge, Yunus, it has remained quiet on the atrocities against Hindus. In such a context, it is a welcome sign to see Donald Trump who is in with a very good chance of winning the US elections, speak up for the Hindus in Bangladesh.
