Bengaluru: BJP leader and union agriculture minister Shobha Karandlaje has issued a strong challenge to Minister Bhairati Suresh, daring him to release any alleged “illegal documents” she is accused of holding. She claims that Minister Suresh has orchestrated a smear campaign against her to silence her criticisms, accusing him and the Congress government of rampant corruption.
Karandlaje alleged that Bhairati Suresh, known as a close associate of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was involved in a scandal where important files were burnt to hide corrupt dealings. She stated, “Minister Bhairati Suresh is the mastermind behind these actions, working to cover up corrupt practices by destroying evidence. When I raised my voice, they falsely accused me to silence my objections.”
The accusations don’t end there. BJP MLC H Vishwanath also levelled serious allegations against the Congress government, asserting that Bhairati Suresh’s influence extended to illegal operations, including running a pub in his own constituency. Vishwanath accused CM Siddaramaiah of misleading the public with claims of integrity, stating, “Siddaramaiah’s claims of transparency and honesty are hollow. People know the truth, and it’s clear that Bhairati Suresh is shielding the CM’s corrupt activities.”
Vishwanath further criticised Siddaramaiah’s remarks about living in a rented house, branding them as a cover for his misdeeds. “He may say he lives modestly, but the people have already decided — Siddaramaiah is corrupt, and no amount of posturing can change that perception,” he asserted.
Both Karandlaje and Vishwanath accused the Congress government of negligence and incompetence, especially in the wake of recent floods affecting several districts in Karnataka. “While people are struggling, unable to leave their homes due to floods, the CM and DCM act as if it’s not their problem. Even district ministers are showing little to no concern for their constituencies. It’s a disgrace,” said Vishwanath.
He lambasted the Congress leadership, stating that they were more focused on personal power struggles ahead of the by-elections rather than addressing the needs of the people. “The leaders of the three parties are busy fighting among themselves, ignoring the sufferings of the people. This government has abandoned the capital and refuses to address the real issues. Their incompetence and lack of empathy are driving the state to despair,” he said.
Minister Bhairati Suresh has found himself at the center of these allegations, with accusations of being the “puppet master” behind illegal dealings, manipulating the system to protect his and the party’s interests. Shobha Karandlaje’s challenge to reveal any illegal documents is seen as a direct confrontation against the minister’s attempts to deflect attention away from the administration’s failings.
Karandlaje went further to highlight the apparent hypocrisy within the Congress party. “While Siddaramaiah claims transparency, his own minister is engaged in covering up illegal activities. The Congress party has lost its way under this leadership, replacing party politics with personal politics, and it’s tearing the organization apart,” she remarked.
Adding to the list of accusations, Karandlaje hinted at a recent 500-crore scandal that she claims is part of the Congress government’s corrupt practices. “They held cornerstone programs to show they are doing development, but these are just a façade to cover their looting. People see through this charade. Siddaramaiah can no longer claim innocence, and Bhairati Suresh is at the heart of these issues,” she stated.
The BJP has ramped up its offensive against the Congress government, particularly targeting Bhairati Suresh, as the state approaches critical by-elections. With public dissatisfaction rising due to governance issues and disaster mismanagement, these allegations add to the pressure on the Congress-led administration, which is already struggling to counter charges of corruption and negligence.
In a state where political battles are intensifying, the accusations against Bhairati Suresh and the Congress government highlight the deepening rift between political rivals and the urgent need for accountability. Whether these claims will lead to further investigations or are just part of a political power play remains to be seen, but the growing unrest suggests that the people of Karnataka are demanding answers.
