SRINAGAR: Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, MLA from Bijbehara and a prominent National Conference leader, was briefly detained at Srinagar airport after security personnel discovered two rounds of ammunition in his baggage during a routine scan. Veeri, who was en route to Jammu, was held for questioning as authorities conducted a verification of the ammunition and his documentation.

Following the incident, Dr. Veeri clarified that the ammunition belonged to his licensed weapon and had inadvertently been packed in his bag. “I have been released after proper verification at the airport,” Veeri stated. He further explained that after a thorough check at a local police station, he was cleared to proceed, with the matter being resolved satisfactorily.

Dr. Veeri, a former physician turned politician, is known for his recent victory in Bijbehara, where he defeated Iltija Mufti of the Peoples Democratic Party. His detention and subsequent release have drawn public attention due to the high-profile nature of his political role and security protocols at the Srinagar airport. (More details are awaited)
