The Uttar Pradesh Government has been working diligently over the past few years to enhance the state’s healthcare infrastructure and services. Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma, Principal Secretary for Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education, highlighted at the sixth edition of “CII UP Health Summit 2024” in Lucknow that significant investments have been made in healthcare over the past four years. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving healthcare facilities and services further to meet the needs of the population better.

At the event, Sharma praised the efforts under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), which he described as a monumental scheme in India’s healthcare landscape. Not only does PMJAY address critical healthcare needs by providing financial protection to the underprivileged, but it also presents major business opportunities in the healthcare sector. The scheme is one of the largest public health initiatives globally, offering a blueprint for comprehensive healthcare coverage.

One of the key topics of discussion during the summit was the Ayushman Bharat Digital Health Mission, which has transformed healthcare delivery in Uttar Pradesh. The state’s Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Ranjan Kumar, highlighted the revolutionary impact of this initiative. By integrating cutting-edge digital technologies, the healthcare system is becoming more efficient and patient-centric, allowing healthcare providers to manage patient care, medical records, and operational workflows with higher precision. This initiative is expected to lead Uttar Pradesh toward a more advanced, streamlined healthcare system.

The Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) introduced in the state is a pivotal component of this digital transformation. HMIS empowers hospitals to function more effectively, improves patient care delivery, and allows for better management of hospital operations.

The private sector’s contribution to healthcare was also emphasised during the summit. Dr Upasana Arora, Vice-Chairman of CII UP and MD of Yashoda Super Specialty Hospitals Private Limited, reaffirmed the private sector’s dedication to supporting healthcare initiatives in Uttar Pradesh. Yashoda Super Specialty Hospitals is focusing on building capacity in nursing and expanding the skills of healthcare workers to manage non-communicable diseases (NCDs) while addressing primary care needs. This focus on upskilling will not only benefit the workforce but also ensure better quality care for patients.

Mukesh Kumar Sharma, Executive Director of PSI India, underlined that a robust healthcare system is crucial for the overall development of the state. He expressed that health plays a critical role in societal advancement, making it central to any developmental agenda.

During the summit, Dr Kanupriya Singhal, Health Specialist at UNICEF UP, also pointed to emerging challenges that require urgent attention, such as rising levels of pollution and their adverse effects on public health. She noted that these environmental factors, along with other social determinants, complicate healthcare delivery and require comprehensive solutions.

In his address, Ranjan Kumar, while praising the advancements in healthcare, stated that the Government is working towards creating a more accessible, efficient, and patient-centric healthcare ecosystem. The underlying goal is to transform Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare system, making it more responsive to the needs of its citizens. With digitalisation and innovations like the Hospital Management Information System, healthcare professionals can manage patient care, records, and hospital operations more effectively, ensuring better outcomes for patients.

The CII UP Health Summit 2024 brought together public and private stakeholders to discuss the future of healthcare in Uttar Pradesh. The discussions emphasised how the State Government is transforming healthcare services through substantial investments and the implementation of key health schemes. Technology, especially digital health initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, is playing a crucial role in this progress.

The summit highlighted that a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors can position Uttar Pradesh as a leader in delivering accessible, quality healthcare. The State’s focus on improving healthcare capacity, particularly in nursing, and tackling public health challenges marks a significant step towards ensuring a healthier future for its citizens.
