RANCHI: Jharkhand high court in a significant decision on Thursday, October 3, pronounced that the allegation pertaining to nexus of coal mafia and police in Dhanbad, labelled by the petitioner are fit to be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The court made these remarks while hearing on a petition filed by a journalist who through his petition has alleged, that one of the official was hand in glove with the coal mafia. According to the reports, the said police official is also facing other accusations for which he was taken into custody.

A bench of Justice Sanjay Dwivedi, in its order directed the CBI to take over the probe into allegations labelled by the journo, asserting that the case is fit to be investigated by the Union investigative agency.

While pronouncing the verdict Justice Dwivedi further said, that the petition filed by the state government after the order was reserved in the case is also unjustified. The case pertains to allegations of illegal mining and sale of coal by a nexus of the coal mafia and the said police officer.

Meanwhile, welcoming the decision of the high court to hand over the probe to CBI, former Chief Minister of the state, Babu Lal Marandi alleged, that despite raising objections about the posting of certain officials, a plot was created for a major scam in Dhanbad. This led to huge financial losses to the state government treasury. An impartial and detailed investigation of that scam was necessary.

Marandi further alleged the incumbent Chief Minister, Hemant Soren for ruining the economy of the state. He also questioned the handling of the matter by the state government and cautioned the government to act against the accused officials immediately.

Speaking with the media, the BJP stalwart further reminded that the Bharatiya Janata party functionaries have been long raising their voices against the illegal mining and theft of coal in Dhanbad. “I had too penned a letter to the CM about the same”, added Marandi.
