Bihar: Two detained after tricolor with crescent moon and star in place of Ashok Chakra hoisted during procession

The police have seized the pickup van and the said modified flag alongside detaining two individuals in connection with the case while further action in regard to the incident is being taken

PATNA: Saran police on Monday, September 16, detained two individual in connection with allegedly hoisting a modified tricolor during a religious procession under Kopa police station limits, informed police in a statement released on social media platform X.

The incident occurred during a Milad-un-Nabi procession being carried out under the Kopa police station limits of Saran district on Monday, where a tricolor with crescent moon and a star in place of Ashok Chakra was hoisted allegedly by a few individual.

Upon receiving the information about the incident through social media, the police after verifying the details immediately arrested two individuals who were waving the said flag in the procession. The police have also seized the pickup van and the modified flag while another individual linked to the incident who provided the distorted flag is being identified, informed Superintendent of Police, (SP), Saran, Dr. Kumar Ashish.

We have identified section 153 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant section of Prevention of National Honour Act 1971 and Indian Flag code of India 2002. Further details linked to the license of procession and how the incident unfolded are also being verified and action will be taken accordingly, he added.

In a press note issued, the police made an appeal to the general public not to heed to rumors and maintain peace along cooperating the police administration. It further made an appeal to the media personnel to do responsible reporting on to the matter.

It is worth mentioning here that in a similar case, the police had also detained an individual identified as Badrul Hasan from Sakra police station limits of Muzaffarpur district after a flag with crescent and a moon in place of Ashok Chakra was found near his house in Gaurihar village in July last year.
