PATNA: Amidst the ongoing row over Waqf (Amendment) bill which has been now under consideration of the Joint Parliament Committee (JPC), Chief Whip of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Lok Sabha, Sanjay Jaiswal visited Govindpur village of Fatuha area and interacted with the residents who have received notices to vacate their land citing that their properties belongs to Waqf Board.

Addressing a press conference in the BJP’s headquarters in Patna, Jaiswal on Thursday, September 12 stated that those who have received notices possess the land records (Khatian) dating back to 1910, they have even received compensations for the land on multiple times, then how can this land belongs to Sunni Waqf board?

The BJP lawmaker further informed, that the said land was transferred in the year 2021-22 but not on the name of Waqf board but on the name of a private individual rather. He further revealed that the Mutawalli (Manager) Bablu Khan had registered the land on his own name. Later on, Jaiswal in a post on social media platform X, alleged that “after losing the election former ward councilor Bablu Khan verbally waqfed all the houses/land of the colony for not voting to him.”

“Those people have been living there (Govindpur) for more than 100 years who have been now continuously harassed by the said individual through notices of Waqf Board. Today as a member of Waqf JPC, I interacted with the victims and listened their grievances. I have assured them of support like a charioteer and I stand strongly against the exploitation of Dalit, backward and poor families in the name of Waqf,” he added.

Jaiswal in the press conference further alleged, that an attempt was made to claim the land by burying a body on government land during road construction. The former BJP president also questioned the role of the Sunni Waqf Board stating that responsible institutions like the Sunni Waqf Board should be vigilant on such matters as incident like such defamed them. The responsible people should understand that snatching of the land of Hindus in that manner will not attract blessing of God.

He further revealed that six people of the Muslim community lives in the said area out of which five are told to vacate their land citing that the properties belongs to Waqf but the Mutawalli’s land is not declared a Waqf’s property, whereas he should be the first one to donate his land to the Waqf.

@BJP4India @AmitShah @girirajsinghbjp @sanjayjaiswalMP #Bihar #Biharnews pic.twitter.com/qB3SsrycQC

The BJP leader also highlighted another case of an alleged misuse of a land designated as a graveyard near Fatuha railway station and claimed that around a dozen shops have come up on the said land and rent is being collected from them. Jaiswal also produced documents supporting his claim during the press meet.

He further urged the authorities to investigate these cases and take action against those found responsible. He emphasised that the JPC is conducting an unbiased investigation into these cases and both the Hindu and the Muslim community are affected.

It must be noted that the Govindpur village of Fatuha area, adjacent to the state capital Patna rose to the limelight after a few of the residents received notices from Waqf board to vacate the land under their possession within 30 days, claiming that the land belongs to the Waqf board. The notice issued by the board stirred a major row as many termed the move as an attempt to occupy private lands belonging to the members of Hindu community.
