On September 9, a tragic incident unfolded at the residence of Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Zahid Beg in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, where a 17-year-old domestic help was found hanging in a room on the terrace of the property. The young girl, identified only by the police due to the ongoing investigation, was reportedly discovered by the MLA’s family in what appeared to be a case of suicide under mysterious circumstances.

Upon receiving the distress call, a team comprising police officers and forensic science laboratory (FSL) experts, led by Bhadohi Superintendent of Police Meenakshi Katyayan, rushed to the scene to commence a detailed investigation into the incident.

“The body has been taken, and post-mortem proceedings are being carried out. An investigation is underway to determine what caused the victim to take the drastic step,” SP Katyayan told media.

According to Circle Officer Ajay Kumar Chauhan, the deceased was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room located on the upper floor of MLA Beg’s residence. Chauhan stated that the room had been locked from the inside, leading to suspicion that the teenager may have taken her own life.

The girl had been employed at the MLA’s residence for several years, and her family resides in the Kanshiram Housing locality of Mamdev.

Details from the initial investigation, as reported by Dainik Jagran, suggest that the discovery was made after the family grew concerned when the door remained closed for an extended period. After a prolonged wait and knocking, they peered inside and saw the girl hanging from the fan with a piece of cloth. They immediately notified the police, who arrived on the scene, forced the door open, and took the body into custody.

A forensic team examined the room and gathered evidence to establish the exact circumstances leading to the teenager’s death.

As per the reports, the post-mortem examination is being conducted by a panel of two doctors, with the entire procedure being videographed to ensure transparency and accuracy, as per the standard protocol for suspicious deaths.

MLA Zahid Beg, commenting on the incident, expressed shock and distress over the death of the young girl, who he identified as Nazia. He mentioned that she had been employed in his house for the last eight years and was provided accommodation in a storeroom on the terrace of the residence. “She had been like family to us, and we are deeply saddened by her passing,” Beg said.

Meanwhile, the authorities have refrained from revealing further details until the post-mortem results are released, which will provide crucial insights into whether the girl’s death was indeed a suicide or if there was any foul play involved. The police are also looking into any potential connections or motives that might have led to the incident.
