HUBLI: In a shocking incident that came to light on September 3, a railway employee named Nadeem was arrested by the police for allegedly luring a woman under the pretext of offering her a job in the railway department. The arrest took place after a sting operation orchestrated by the victim and her husband, leading to Nadeem’s arrest on September 3.
Nadeem, a clerk in the financial department of the South Western Railway division head office in Hubli, is accused of exploiting women by promising them jobs in the railway department. According to the police, Nadeem used his position to create a facade of legitimacy, luring vulnerable women by offering them employment opportunities in exchange for sexual favors. The modus operandi involved befriending women through social media and other communication platforms, convincing them of his influence within the railway department.
To make his scheme more convincing, Nadeem reportedly created a fake railway job notification page on social media. He specifically targeted women who were either in desperate need of employment or were married and looking to support their families. Nadeem would send out these fake job notifications, and once a woman showed interest, he would establish a friendly rapport with her. Over time, he would escalate his demands, eventually suggesting that the woman needed to meet with “senior officers” for one day to secure her job. He used a fake officer ID to further deceive the women, arranging meetings at places like railway guest houses.
The case took a dramatic turn when a housewife from Keshwapur, Hubli, became Nadeem’s latest target. Nadeem, who had been chatting with the woman and making advances, invited her to a railway guest house where he was staying, claiming that he had come to Hubli from Delhi. He sent her a photograph of the room, asking her to meet him there under the pretext of finalising her job offer.
Frightened and suspicious of Nadeem’s intentions, the woman informed her husband about the situation. Together, they decided to take action and filed a complaint at the Keshwapura police station. The police, in coordination with the couple, devised a plan to catch Nadeem in the act. The woman agreed to meet Nadeem at the guest house, and once he made his advances, the police, who were waiting nearby, intervened and arrested him.
Hubli Police Commissioner N. Shasikumar provided details of the incident, confirming Nadeem’s arrest. The police are now conducting a thorough investigation to determine the extent of Nadeem’s fraudulent activities. “We are taking this matter very seriously,” Shasikumar said. “We have initiated an investigation to uncover how many women he may have cheated and the full scope of his actions.”
During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Nadeem had booked the guest house room under the name of an IAS officer, further indicating the lengths he would go to in order to perpetrate his scams. This discovery has raised concerns about the potential misuse of official identities in such schemes and has prompted the police to look into any possible connections or accomplices who might have aided Nadeem.
The arrest has sparked outrage in the community, particularly among women’s rights organizations and local residents who are shocked by the audacity of Nadeem’s actions. Many have called for strict action against him, not only for the exploitation of women but also for tarnishing the reputation of the railway department and other government institutions.
Nadeem is currently in police custody, and a case has been registered against him at the Keshwapur police station. The charges include fraud, sexual harassment, and impersonation, among others. The police have indicated that more charges may be added as the investigation progresses, especially if more victims come forward.
