In a major success for security forces fighting the Maoists in Chhattisgarh, a deputy commander of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) has surrender before the police in Dhamtari, around 60 km from the state capital Raipur.

The surrender took place before the Superintendent of Police, Dhamtari, Anjanye Varshanaye on Thursday, August 22 marking return of another Maoist commander to mainstream.

Ajay who was a member of Sitanadi Area Committee of the outlaws turned himself before the police and surrendered, he was active as a deputy commander in the co-ordination committee of the Maoist and was associated with the banned outfit for 10 years, informed Varshanaye.

He has been involved in a number of cases including of murder, planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and an attack on court, a total of six cases have been pending against him in Dhamtari itself, he was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head, added SP Dhamtari.

Ajay was reportedly fed up with the daily exploitation and hollow ideology of Maoist outfit thus opted to return to the mainstream. He has disclosed various information linked to the Maoist outfit which are being verified by the police.

Notably scores of Maoist cadres have surrender before the authorities in recent few months marking a surge in numbers of those parting ways with the violent group in Chhattisgarh. Majority of those who have opted to return to the mainstream have expressed satisfaction over the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state.

Earlier in a similar development a Maoist couple carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 7 lakh had also surrendered before the authorities in Dantewada on August 13. This follows the surrender of 14 lower rung cadres of the banned outfit in Bijapur around a fortnight ago.

In another development, a female Maoist cadre, Ranjita alias Hidma Kawasi carrying a reward of Rs 13 lakh had also surrender before the police in Kabirdham district. Ranjita was named in a total of 22 cases.

Female Maoist cadre surrender in Gadchiroli

In a related development, a female Maoist cadre has surrendered before the security forces in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Wednesday, August 21. The surrender took place before the police and the officials of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Sangeeta Pusu Podadi, a resident of Turremarka of Maoist affected Bhamragarh Taluka named in serious crimes like murder, arson and encounter with security personnel surrendered before the authorities. She was carrying a bounty of Rs 6 lakh on her head, informed police.

The development has taken place days after another senior female Maoist indulged in providing supplies to the outlaws had surrender before the CRPF officials on July 28.

It is worth mentioning here that a surge in surrender by the Maoist cadres has been witnessed in the Gadchiroli district for the past few months underscoring the significance of back to back successful operations carried out by the security forces in both Gadchiroli and neighboring Maad region of Chhattisgarh.

The development marks its significance given both Gadchiroli and Maad region were earlier considered as a bastion of banned outfit where the outlaws have suffered some major losses in recent times. Additionally, the growing capabilities of security forces to carry out targeted operations in the bordering region has also halted the uninterrupted cross border movement of the outlaws , a time tested tactics used by the Maoists to evade the search operations of the forces after carrying out major attacks.
