In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a troubling case has surfaced involving allegations of “love jihad,” where a woman has levelled serious accusations against a man. The victim claims that the accused deliberately concealed his identity to establish a relationship with her and, under false pretenses, drugged and sexually assaulted her.
According to her statement to the police, the woman met the accused, Zia-ul-Haq, two years ago. He introduced himself as “Jai” and falsely claimed to be a resident of Barabanki working as a driver. Initially, the accused fostered a friendship with her while concealing his true identity.
The situation escalated when the accused mixed a drug into a cold drink, which he offered to the woman. After she consumed the drugged beverage, he proceeded to sexually assault her. He recorded the assault and threatened to make the video public if she did not comply with his demands.
The victim’s horror intensified when she discovered that the accused was a Muslim and had engaged in this heinous act while hiding his true identity. Upon realising the full extent of the deception and abuse, she resisted, leading to physical assault by the accused.
In response to the victim’s complaint, the police have filed an FIR and arrested Zia-ul-Haq. The authorities are currently investigating the case, and legal proceedings are underway. The case has drawn attention to broader issues of deception and abuse within the context of interfaith relationships, highlighting ongoing concerns about such incidents across various regions.
