The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) delegation met with Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health and Medical Education Minister Brijesh Pathak to advocate for an increase in the stipend for medical interns. The memorandum, submitted on Friday, highlighted the inadequate stipends currently provided to medical interns in regional medical institutes and schools, which have sparked protests among students. ABVP supports these demands and calls for a swift resolution.

ABVP had earlier informed Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak about this issue on July 17, urging an increase in the stipends for medical students. Since July 22, ABVP has actively supported the medical students’ protests, culminating in the submission of the memorandum today.

During discussions with the ABVP delegation, Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak assured that the matter would be taken seriously and addressed in the interest of the medical students.

Rohit Singh, State Joint Secretary of ABVP Awadh, stated, “ABVP has consistently advocated for a uniform stipend for medical students across the country. In Uttar Pradesh, medical interns receive a stipend of Rs 12,000, which is insufficient for their basic needs and significantly lower than stipends in other states.” He emphasized the urgency of addressing this disparity.

Saurabh Nayak, ABVP’s State MediVision Convenor and a medical intern, added, “The current stipend in Uttar Pradesh is much lower compared to other states, where the average is around Rs 25,000. In centrally affiliated medical institutions, the stipend is even higher at Rs 27,000. We have urged the Uttar Pradesh government to adjust the stipend accordingly to meet the basic needs of medical interns.”

The delegation, which met with the Deputy Chief Minister, included ABVP Awadh Joint Secretary Rohit Singh, State MediVision Convenor Saurabh Nayak, along with members Manish Kumar Gupta, Srishti, and Yash Chopra.
