In another attack on the Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, an enraged mob of fundamentalists backed by few fanatic groups and local leaders of Awami league launched a violent attack on the Hindu residents of Bangladeshi capital Dhaka’s Miranjilla colony on Wednesday, July 10.
According to the reports, the incident occurred around 1.30 in the afternoon when a local magistrate visits the Mirinjilla colony to further the rehabilitation process of Hindu minorities in a newly built centre.
However, the decision does not bode well with a few local leaders and groups who in turn opposed the move of the administration and launched an attack on the Hindu residents subsequently, injuring many of them.
The violent mob of Islamist soon started pelting stone and bricks on the residents along ransacking many houses while a local temple was also vandalised partially as reported by Hindupost. Around 60 members of the Hindu community sustained injuries in the attack who were later taken to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
A video of the said attack is also doing rounds on the social media in which the mob can be seen pelting stones on the residents. The violent mob was reported to be led by local councilor Muhammad Auwal Hussain and his men.

Notably, the said colony falls under the limits of Dhaka South City Corporation which started an eviction drive in the area almost a month ago, many houses mostly belonging to Hindus were reported to be demolished during the drive.
However, the corporation decided to stop the eviction drive and assist those who lost their homes in the process following outrage against the drive across the country, though the shifting of stance by the corporation does not bode well with fanatic elements and a few local leaders of Awami league who eventually launched an attack against the residents on Wednesday.
It is worth mentioning here that this is not the only time that the minority community of the Bangladesh especially Hindus are on the receiving end of an attack launched by the extremists and reports pertaining to the persecutions of Hindus in Muslim dominated Bangladesh have been coming to fore on regular intervals.
Majority of such attacks which are reported to be planned in nature and are carried out by radical elements who often targets the religious sites and festivals of the minority Hindu community.
Recently in a similar incident, a group of fundamentalist also launched an attack on the members of the Hindu community in ward no 7 of Umedpur village of Madaripur district of Bangladesh on June 19. The miscreants during the attack also set ablaze a local Hindu temple along vandalising a few houses.

In another incident reported recently, a Hindu youth was brutally thrashed by his classmates over sharing a message in a social media group which was alleged to be blasphemous in nature. The incident took place in Gopalganj of Bangladesh on May 26. The said youth was later admitted to hospital after he fell unconscious during the assault.
These attacks backed up by cases of forced conversion promoted by various fundamentalist groups poses a serious threat to the existence of the Hindu community in Bangladesh which is already witnessing a sharp decline in terms of their share in overall population of the country.
Notably, Hindus are about 7.9 percent of the current Bangladeshi population which had a significant Hindu population (approximately 20% ) at the time of its independence from West Pakistan.
