Millions of people worldwide suffer with arthritis, a chronic illness characterised by pain and inflammation in the joints that severely lowers quality of life. Many people are seeking comfort from their ailments through alternative therapies because contemporary treatments frequently concentrate on symptom management rather than a cure. The traditional Indian medical system known as Ayurveda uses herbal medicines and a balanced diet to treat arthritis. Ayurveda seeks to lessen pain and enhance joint function by balancing the body’s energies and lowering inflammation. Here, we look at five foods and plants from Ayurveda that can help reduce arthritis pain naturally.

1. Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

Ayurveda praises turmeric, a yellow spice that is frequently used in Indian cooking, for its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities. Curcumin, the main ingredient in turmeric, has been demonstrated to lessen arthritis-related pain and inflammation. Clinical research indicates that curcumin may relieve joint pain just as well as some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) without having the same negative side effects. Turmeric is a flexible option for people looking for natural pain relief because it may be taken as a supplement, added to food, or drunk as a tea.

2. Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

Another strong anti-inflammatory herb that is frequently used to treat arthritis in Ayurvedic medicine is ginger. It has potent ingredients, including shogaols and gingerols, which stop the body’s inflammatory activities. Ginger, whether dried, fresh, or as a supplement, can be regularly consumed to greatly lessen stiffness and soreness in the joints. Drinking ginger tea, which is created by boiling fresh ginger slices in water, is an easy method to include ginger in your diet. Ginger can also be added to food to improve flavour and provide additional health benefits.

3. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)

Indian ginseng, or ashwagandha, is a highly regarded adaptogen in Ayurveda that aids in the body’s ability to control inflammation and stress. For generations, people have used it to cure a variety of illnesses, including arthritis. The analgesic and anti-inflammatory qualities of ashwagandha help lessen joint discomfort and enhance joint health overall. It can be taken as a capsule or as a powder that is combined with warm milk or water. Patients with arthritis have been shown to have far better pain alleviation and movement when ashwagandha is taken regularly.

4. Boswellia (Boswellia serrata)

Indian frankincense, or boswellia, is a well-known Ayurvedic remedy for inflammation. It is made from the resin of the boswellia tree. The body’s inflammatory pathways are blocked by the active ingredients, boswellic acids, which reduce arthritic symptoms. According to research, boswellia can lessen discomfort, strengthen the knee joint, and increase athletic performance. It comes in a number of forms, including as topical creams and pills that can be put straight to the afflicted joints to provide focused relief.

5. Garlic (Allium sativum)

In addition to being an essential ingredient in many dishes, garlic is prized in Ayurveda for its immune-stimulating and anti-inflammatory qualities. Due to the sulfur compounds it contains, arthritis pain and swelling can be decreased by inhibiting inflammatory enzymes. Garlic can help control the symptoms of arthritis and enhance general health when taken regularly. You can consume raw garlic, add it to food, or take it as a supplement. It’s a great complement to an arthritis-friendly diet because of its adaptability and health advantages.
