With a millennium of history, the ancient Indian medical system known as Ayurveda provides a comprehensive treatment plan for sleep disorders and insomnia. Ayurveda, with its emphasis on the harmony of the body, mind, and environment, tackles the underlying causes of sleep problems instead of just masking their symptoms. Personalised regimens of herbal treatments, dietary modifications, lifestyle adjustments, and stress-relieving exercises like yoga and meditation are common forms of treatment.

Ayurveda is becoming a more well-liked option for people looking for all-natural remedies for persistent sleep problems because of its integrative approach, which not only attempts to restore regular sleep patterns but also enhances general well-being.

Natural Supplements and Herbal Remedies-

Ayurveda treats insomnia and sleep disturbances with a range of herbs and natural medicines. Renowned adaptogen ashwagandha promotes better sleep quality by lowering stress and anxiety. Two more noteworthy herbs that are well-known for their calming effects on the nervous system are Brahmi and Jatamansi. Furthermore, due to its sedative qualities, formulations like Shankhpushpi and Tagara are commonly given. These herbs are frequently blended into unique concoctions that are matched to the dosha, or constitution, of the patient, guaranteeing a customised therapeutic approach that addresses the underlying imbalances causing insomnia.

Modifications to Diet and Lifestyle

An important part of the Ayurvedic therapy of insomnia is diet. Experts frequently advise against using stimulants like caffeine and processed foods that can interfere with sleep in favour of a diet high in whole, fresh foods that are simple to digest. Warm milk mixed with nutmeg or turmeric is a traditional cure meant to help you unwind and fall asleep. Ayurveda emphasises the significance of a regular daily schedule, including regular sleep and waking times, in addition to dietary adjustments, in order to maintain the body’s internal clock. It is also advised to engage in rituals like warm baths and oil massages (Abhyanga) before bed to soothe the mind and body in preparation for sound sleep.

Meditation, Yoga, and Mindfulness Techniques

The cornerstone of Ayurvedic treatment for insomnia is incorporating mindfulness, meditation, and yoga into everyday routines. Certain yoga poses, or asanas, and breathing techniques, or pranayama, are meant to ease tension and promote relaxation. Progressive muscle relaxation and guided visualisation are two meditation practices that assist calm the mind and facilitate falling asleep. By encouraging people to have a positive relationship with sleep, mindfulness techniques help people cope with the worry and unfavourable thought patterns that frequently worsen insomnia.
