The Lok Sabha 2024 contest for Varanasi proved to be a cinch because Ajay Rai of the Congress did not threaten Prime Minister Modi. It was in 2014 that PM Narendra Modi first contested from Varanasi and won the elections by defeating Rai.

Also in 2019, PM Modi repeated the same fate and registered an emphatic win from Varanasi. During his tenure as an MP from Varanasi, PM Modi transformed Kashi into a world-class city. Kashi, which is also known as the city of temples, was developed, and one could see modern infrastructure.

Moreover, it was during the tenure of PM Modi that the Kashi Vishwanath Dham was built.

During the election campaign for Lok Sabha Elections 2024, lakhs of people rallied behind him and came out in his support during the roadshow. PM Modi held a roadshow and addressed a Nari Shakti conference in Varanasi before filing his nomination papers on May 14. He was joined by the CM of UP Yogi Adityanath, and several other BJP stalwarts.

With PM Modi as the Member of Parliament from Lok Sabha, he steered ambitious projects such as Rudrakash center, Medical Hub, Airport Upgrades, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, and also did extensive work for the weavers.

Whereas Ajay Rai Rai, asserted his local roots and claimed that if the BJP is unseated, only then can the issues of the local populace can be addressed.

Varanasi is home to weavers from the Muslim community in significant numbers. PM Modi retained the Varanasi Lok Sabha Constituency with a 152513 votes. PM Modi got 63.62 per cent vote share whereas INC’s Ajay Rai got 14.38 per cent votes during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

He earlier won the Varanasi Lok Sabha Constituency with 56.37 per cent votes in the Lok Sabha of 2014.
