“Boycott elections, join the Maoist movement”, posters linked to CPI Maoist surfaced ahead of polls in Jharkhand

Amidst persistent operations of the security forces which led to the fleeing of the Maoist from their stronghold of Budha Pahad region in recent years, the banned outfit looks desperate to mark its presence in the State by pasting posters pertaining to boycotting of elections at separate locations

The outlawed CPI Maoist has once again showcased its anti-democratic face ahead of the Lok Sabha election by pasting posters pertaining to boycott of the elections. The said posters along with banners have surfaced in the Manoharpur area of Chaibasa under Maoist affected West Singhbhum district.

According to reports, the Maoists in the poster pasted at separate places have given a call to boycott the ongoing 18th Lok Sabha elections. The posters pasted by the Maoist have surfaced days ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in the district where voting is scheduled to be held on May 13.

The Mao’s men in the poster have also trained guns on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and made an appeal to the masses to beware of the menace of alleged Brahmanical-Hindutva. They further have called to demolished the police system by establishing so called New People’s State (Nav Janvadi Rajya).

The outlaws in the poster pasted have further alleged the government for bombardment and drones strikes, they have also called upon the masses to join the violent movement to establish a new regime.

Significantly, this is not the only time that the posters and banners linked to the outlawed CPI Maoist have surfaced before the polls and earlier similar posters were also recovered by the police from Haider Nagar police station limits of Palamu district.

Following the incident, a joint team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police raided the house of Akhilesh Yadav in Ghaghra village under Hussainabad police station limits on and apprehended Anju Devi on May 2.

The raid was conducted following the police received intel about the presence of Nitesh Yadav, zonal commander of the outlawed CPI Maoist who is suspected to be behind the posters pasted at separate locations.

Notably, the Maoist had also hung banners alongside pasting posters under the Jaraikela police station of West Singhbhum districts last month. Further, similar banners and posters had also surfaced before the second phase of elections in the Maoist-hit areas of Chhattisgarh where the outlaws had also given a call to boycott the elections.

The Mao’s men had also carried out killing of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker for campaigning for the Narendra Modi led party in Farsagaon police station limits of Narayanpur on April 16, the extremist had labelled charges of espionage on the deceased. Days after the murder of the BJP worker, a group of cadres of the proscribed outfit also killed a political representative in Aranpur of Dantewada on April 26.

Now the poster surfaced in separate places of Jharkhand, it indicates about a similar ploy of the banned outfit to interrupt free and fair elections in the State of Jharkhand by creating an atmosphere of fear and panic among the masses before the polls on Tuesday.

Though, despite the Maoist attempt to affect the polls in the State, the security forces, on the other hand, are keeping a vigil watch on the Maoist activities and are conducting frequent operations in the Maoist affected regions.

It is to be noted that the tribal dominated State will be holding the Lok Sabha polls in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th phase on May 13, 20, 25 and June 1 respectively, while the Maoist affected Lok Sabha seats of Lohardaga, Khunti, Palamu and West Singhbhum will go on polls under the fourth phase of the ongoing general elections on May 13.

Notably, the general elections in the State this time mark its significance, as it is only after a significant gap of over two decades that elections will be held in a few pockets of Budha Pahad area, a long held bastion of Maoist which was declared an insurgency-free zone only last year.

Additionally, the security personnel and the administration is also gearing up to conduct peaceful elections in remote regions of West Singhbhum district where a number of polling booths will be setup for the first time.
