On May 8, a First Information Report FIR was filed against a young person for sharing a video on social media that was disparaging toPrime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
The arrest was made after members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal lodged a complaint against the accused Jeeshan in Mohan Nagar police station of Durg district on May 8 in the afternoon and demanded strict action into the matter.
In the complaint submitted to the police, the VHP office-bearers accused Jeeshan, a resident of Kailash Nagar of Durg district, for posting a derogatory meme against the PM, Home Minister Shah, and UP’s CM, Yogi Adityanath on social media platforms.
The VHP members in the complaint have alleged that the accused violated the model code of conduct, and it hurt the sentiments of people by posting the derogatory video linked to PM and others. The members have also submitted the video to the police.
On the basis of the complaint, the Mohan Nagar police, after lodging an FIR into the case, have reportedly arrested the accused, Jeeshan. In the FIR registered into the matter, the city police have invoked section 505(1) (b) and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
The accused had put up the said video as WhatsApp status in its phone on Tuesday, May 7 (on the day of election) when it grabbed the attention of a few people who informed the VHP members leading to a FIR into the case, informed an office bearer of VHP familiar with the development.
