Agartala: Even though the Border Security Force (BSF) has installed over 500 night vision surveillance cameras on the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura and has taken many other measures to check cross-border activities, illegal infiltration remains a major challenge for the security agencies. A day after the BSF stated its view on the border infiltration, five Rohingyas, including two minors, were detained at Piturbazar Motor Stand under Kailashahar of Unakoti District of Tripura.
Briefing the media on the development, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Unakoti District, Kanta Jangir, said, ” Based on credible intelligence input, police have detained five Rohingyas. The arrested Rohingyas were interrogated by a police team to establish their illegal entry to Indian territory. Moreover, police are trying to determine their motive for infiltration and are also looking for the Indian handlers who are facilitating them in Tripura.” SP Jangir further said that the investigating team is also trying to apprehend the tout who has helped the Rohingyas cross the border. Among the five Rohingyas who were arrested by the police, two were males, two were females, and one was a child. Police sources said that the Rohingyas might have crossed the border and entered India in the Magufuli area. The group is suspected of travelling to Hyderabad like many of the recently arrested Rohingyas.
It should be mentioned that BSF Tripura said on April 22 that it has installed over 500-night vision CCTVs on the border to check infiltration and illegal activities. In the last 12 months, the border force has arrested over 1000 infiltrators on the border. Moreover, the Border Security Force (BSF) said that it has fenced 6 out of 11 unfenced pitches in the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura. The state shares an 856-kilometre-long border with Bangladesh. 7 kilometres of the unfenced border has been covered recently by the BSF. Still, there are several kilometres of the border in the state which are uncovered. There are some disputes which need to be solved before fencing the remaining pitches. The illegal infiltrators take advantage of these unfenced border areas and cross into Indian territory.
