BJP’s Surge in Telangana: A Triumph of development and leadership

In recent years, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has witnessed a remarkable ascent in the southern state of Telangana, marking a significant shift in the state's political landscape. From humble beginnings, the BJP has steadily expanded its footprint, capturing the attention of voters and political observers alike

As the country votes during the 18th Lok Sabha Election in a seven-phase process, the political landscape in Telangana is undergoing a significant transformation. The focus has shifted to assessing the positions of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA and the unofficial leader of the I.N.D.I. Alliance, Rahul Gandhi. While PM Modi’s narrative revolves around the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, the opposition’s approach appears more focused on exploiting caste divisions and consolidating minority votes.

The upcoming electoral battle in Telangana, scheduled for May 13, promises to be fiercely contested. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a head start, with several factors contributing to its pole position in the state.

BJP’s Ascendancy in Telangana: In recent years, the BJP’s rise in Telangana has been remarkable. In the 2018 assembly elections, the party secured 7 per cent of the vote share. Subsequently, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP contested 17 seats and surprised many by winning 4 seats, including Nizamabad, where the incumbent CM K Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter suffered defeat. The party’s Central Leadership has invested significant efforts in expanding its presence in the state. In the December 2023 assembly elections, the BJP secured a vote share of 14 per cent and won 8 seats. A key strategy employed by the BJP has been the early declaration of candidates, providing them with ample time for campaigning with primary focus on development works , welfare schemes and clean image of PM Modi. The party has set an ambitious target of winning 12+ seats in the upcoming elections.

Central Government Schemes:
Expansion of Road Infrastructure: Given the backward areas of many Telangana districts, the NDA government made it a point to allocate more than 1.1 Lakh crores for Highway Development. From Independence till 2014 , 2500 KMs of road was laid and from 2014 till 2022 new 2500 KMs was laid triggering good connectivity, and 2000 Kms are in still in progress.

Railways Modernisation: Modi Govt spent close to Rs.30,000 CR on New Railway lines and modernization of stations, Wagon factory and MMTS

Welfare Schemes:
• Food Subsidies of Rs. 35,000 Crores,
• MGNREGA Rs.30,000 Crores,
• 5.5 Lakhs of PM Svanidhi for Street Vendors,
• PM Jeevan Jyothi Bhima Yojana and PM Suraksha Yojana covers 45 Lakhs and 1.1 Crores respectively.
• 40 Lakhs eShram cards issued for people working in Unorganised sectors.

PM Modi’s Focus on Telangana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally engaged with the electorate in Telangana, visiting multiple constituencies and announcing numerous development projects. He has criticised the opposition, portraying them as focused on personal and dynastic interests rather than the welfare of the people. PM Modi’s commitment to the well-being of all citizens, regardless of caste or religion, has resonated with voters across Telangana. Making an emotional pitch as strong response to Lalu Prasad Yadav comments , PM Modi mentioned that he considers 140+ Crores citizens as his family members

Weakening of Opposition: The BRS party in Telangana has faced multiple setbacks in recent times. The party’s defeat in the recent Assembly elections has led to internal turmoil, with key leaders and members rumoured to be defecting to the Congress and BJP. The arrest of Kavita and slew of corruption allegations of various other leaders and recent phone tapping cases has further weakened the BRS position. Speculations of tacit understandings between the BRS and Congress have also raised because of tardy progress on Kaleshwaram corruption allegations. To add salt to the injury, key leaders like Kadiyam Srihari, Keshava Rao who held senior positions in BRS defected to Congress to safeguard the political future of their next generation.

On the other hand Congress is unable to fulfil delivery of much hyped six guarantee schemes and with challenges of water and electricity coming to the fore is resorting minority rhetoric like opposing implementation of CAA, to safeguard CM Revanth Reddy for imminent loss in Lok Sabha has changed the incharges for various constituencies

Strong BJP Candidates: In the upcoming elections in Telangana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised for a strong performance, relying on the impeccable image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the principles of Hindutva, and the integrity of its candidates. Let’s delve into the profiles of some of the key BJP candidates, each bringing unique strengths to the electoral fray.

Kishan Reddy: With a three-term MLA record, Kishan Reddy is a seasoned political veteran, currently serving as an incumbent MP and Minister. Known for his clean and non-controversial image, Reddy enjoys significant support, including among minorities. His active involvement during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic and Hyderabad floods has earned him goodwill among voters, particularly in the Secunderabad stronghold of the BJP.

Bandi Sanjay Kumar: Rising to prominence post the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bandi Sanjay Kumar has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in rural Telangana. As the party president, his unapologetic Hindutva stance has resonated strongly, especially among the youth, bolstering BJP’s grassroots presence and ensuring a smooth sail in the upcoming elections.

Etela Rajender: With over three decades of residence in the Malkajgiri constituency, Etela Rajender brings forth a rich administrative experience and a deep-rooted connection with the people. His leadership during the Telangana agitation further enhances his appeal, making him a formidable candidate for the largest Lok Sabha constituency in the state.

Madhavi Latha: Despite being new to politics, Madhavi Latha has captivated the imagination of Telangana’s populace with her fiery speeches, particularly on social media platforms. Hailing from the old city, her appeal transcends religious and caste barriers, drawing significant support from women voters. Her contest against the Owaisi brothers promises to be one of the most closely watched battles, signaling potential cracks in their 4-decade old bastion.

Konda Vishweshwar Reddy: From a lineage of freedom fighters, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy embodies the spirit of Telangana’s struggle. His reputation as a technocrat and social entrepreneur appeals to both the IT crowd and rural voters alike. With a track record of fighting against corruption, Reddy stands out as a beacon of integrity in the political landscape.

Raghunandan Rao: A staunch advocate of the separate Telangana movement, Raghunandan Rao’s legal background and articulate views position him as a formidable challenger. With the weakening of the BRS party, Rao is expected to engage in a two-cornered fight in Medak constituency, showcasing his ability to confront even stalwarts like KCR.

Dharmapuri Arvind: Hailing from a prominent political family, Dharmapuri Arvind’s innovative campaign strategies have disrupted traditional politics. His decisive victory over Kavitha, KCR’s daughter in the Nizamabad constituency and subsequent strong performance in the assembly elections underscore his growing influence within the party cadre. After establishment of Turmeric Board, the key promise that he signed on bond is delivered, Arvind is expected to win this election easily

DK Aruna and Boora Narasaiah Goud: Both stalwarts in their own right, Aruna and Goud bring with them a wealth of experience and unwavering dedication to public service. With strong local connections and clean images, they are expected to put up tough fights in their respective constituencies.

Thandra Vinod Rao: An entrepreneur and philanthropist, Vinod Rao emerges as a formidable force for Khammam seat, locked in a fierce confrontation with the incumbent BRS MP, Nama Nageshwara Rao. The Congress’s silence on their candidate adds an air of suspense, especially after speculations of a contender from the Gandhi family

With BRS in total shambles, BJP adopted strategy of fielding leaders from other parties.
BB Patil: a two-term BRS MP from Zaheerabad, is trying his luck this time on BJP ticket. The traditional Lingayat votes and big victory of Kamareddy assembly seat which is part of Zaheerabad Lok Sabha would boost Patil chances.

Aroori Ramesh: Despite facing hurdles with BRS leaders resorting to multiple bids to stop Ramesh joining BJP, Ramesh’s resilience shines through as he prepares to contest the election on BJP ticket. He is expected to gain votes from BRS supporters who were disillusioned after Kadiyam Kavya being official BRS candidate for Warangal seat shifted to Congress.

Pothuganti Bharath: Carrying the legacy of his father, veteran leader P Ramulu, Bharath leverages Modi’s brand and his own youth appeal in a tightly contested triangular fight against Congress and BRS Candidates
Prof Ajmeera Sitaram Naik: The academician and former MP steps into the fray once again, this time under the BJP banner, facing formidable opponents from both BRS and Congress in Mahabubabad

Sanampudi Saidireddy: Former BRS MLA from Husnabad with rich experience as IT Manager and also an educator, would be in straight fight with Raghuveer Reddy, son Congress Veteran Leader K.Jana Reddy for Nalgonda Seat

Godam Nagesh: In order to buck the trend of Adilabad not electing same party twice, BJP changed it current MP Soyam Bapu Rao and gave ticket this time to Former MLA Godam Nagesh

Gomasa Srinivas: Srinivas who was student leader and tried his luck for MP election in 2009 would be in triangular fight for Peddapalle seat along with Former BRS minister Koppula Eshwar and Gaddam Vamsi Krishna son of Gaddam Vivek.

The influx of clean image leaders and the strategic positioning of candidates across other Lok Sabha seats further solidifies BJP’s standing in Telangana. With a compelling blend of experience, integrity, and grassroots connect, the BJP is poised to make significant strides in the upcoming elections, reflecting the people’s aspirations for progress and development.

One thing most of political observers concur is that people are very clear of their choice for assembly and Lok Sabha elections. In conclusion, the BJP’s surge in Telangana is a testament to its focus on development, leadership, and inclusive governance. The party’s commitment to serving all sections of society, coupled with PM Modi’s visionary leadership, has struck a chord with the electorate. As the state gears up for the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP finds itself in a formidable position, poised to make significant gains. With a robust cadre, strong leadership, and popular support, the BJP is primed to emerge as a dominant force in Telangana politics, reaffirming the people’s faith in its ability to deliver progress and prosperity. There is high chance that BJP would get rich haul of seats from Telangana in its journey for Ab Ki Paar Char Sau Paar
