Liquor Scam: Diabetic Delhi CM Kejriwal having sweets, Mango, Aloo-Puri in jail; Contradictory claims in the court

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is diabetic, is deliberately consuming foods high in sugar, such as mangoes, aloo puri, and sweets, on a daily basis to raise his blood sugar levels in order to seek medical bail

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has made a startling revelation on April 18, by alleging that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is diabetic, has been deliberately consuming high-sugar foods like mangoes, aloo puri, and sweets to elevate his blood sugar levels, possibly to strengthen his case for medical bail. This claim was made during a court hearing where Kejriwal had sought doctor consultation.

The court, upon hearing the ED’s allegations, directed the Tihar Jail authorities to submit a report detailing Kejriwal’s dietary intake. Additionally, Kejriwal’s lawyer was asked to provide details of the prescribed diet for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo, who suffers from type 2 diabetes.

According to the ED’s counsel, despite being permitted to have home-cooked meals, Kejriwal has been consuming items with high sugar content regularly, including tea with sugar, bananas, sweets, puri, and aloo sabji. The ED contends that this behavior is a deliberate attempt to create a medical emergency and garner sympathetic treatment from the court for bail on medical grounds.

The probe agency further stated that doctors are stationed at the jail around the clock, monitoring Kejriwal’s blood sugar levels twice a day. Referring to Kejriwal’s medical reports, the ED revealed that his blood sugar level was 139 mg/dl on April 1, the day he was admitted to Tihar Jail, and had risen to 276 mg/dl by April 14.

Kejriwal’s lawyer, however, rebutted the ED’s claims, alleging that they were being made for media attention. Expressing disbelief, the lawyer questioned whether someone with sugar-related health issues would be provided such foods in jail.

In response, the court requested a list of Kejriwal’s prescribed diet to compare it with the food he has been consuming while in custody. The matter is set to be continued in court on Friday, indicating that the controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s dietary choices and its implications on his bail plea is far from over.

The ED’s allegations have sparked a debate over the ethical implications of consuming high-sugar foods for legal purposes. As the case unfolds, it brings to light the complexities surrounding medical bail and the lengths to which individuals may go to secure it.
