In a significant development on Monday, March 4, Delhi’s Dwarka court sanctioned a custody parole for notorious gangster Sandeep, also known as Kala Jathedi, to facilitate his marriage ceremony with Anuradha Chaudhary, alias ‘Madam Minz’. The court’s decision allows Jathedi a six-hour reprieve from custody on the 12th of March to partake in the wedding festivities in the national capital, followed by a ‘Grih Pravesh’ ceremony on the March 13 in Sonipat, Haryana.

Under the court’s directive, Jathedi will be escorted by police custody for his marriage ceremony on the 12th of March, scheduled between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in Delhi. Additionally, stringent security arrangements have been mandated by the court, placing the onus on the Delhi police to ensure the safety and security of the event. Furthermore, on March 13, Jathedi is to be transported to his village for the Grih Pravesh ceremony, slated between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The decision to grant parole was rendered by Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Deepak Wason following a thorough examination of submissions made by Jathedi’s legal representative and a review of the Delhi Police’s response.

Jathedi’s lawyer, Rohit Dalal, argued for the parole on humanitarian grounds, emphasising the constitutional right to marriage under Article 21. It was asserted that both Jathedi and his fiancée are of legal age as per the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955. The plea contended that denying Jathedi the opportunity to marry would constitute prejudice and a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution. Furthermore, it was highlighted in the plea that there is no one available at Jathedi’s home to care for his bedridden mother, adding to the urgency of his temporary release.

Sandeep, alias Kala Jathedi, had been apprehended by the Delhi Police’s special cell in 2021, with a bounty of Rs 7 lakh on his head. He was arrested in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, nearly 200 kilometers away from the national capital. Sandeep is wanted in connection with various criminal activities, including extortion, murder, and other serious offenses across Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. The Delhi Police, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), has been actively pursuing the Jathedi case.

The relationship between Sandeep and Anuradha, alias Madam Minz, dates back to 2020 when both were among the most wanted criminals by the Delhi Police. Despite Sandeep’s incarceration since 2021, their relationship persisted through legal channels. Anuradha, a graduate in computer applications, has faced allegations of involvement in numerous cases of murder, extortion, and kidnapping in Rajasthan.

Insights into their romance reveal that Sandeep was captivated by Anuradha’s proficiency in English and her adeptness with firearms, as reported by TOI. Anuradha’s life took a tumultuous turn following the demise of her former associate, gangster Anandpal, in a police encounter in 2017. Subsequently, she found herself targeted by Anandpal’s rival, Raju Basodi. It was during this period that gangster Balbir Banuda extended support to her. By 2019, Anuradha had established contact with Jathedi, ultimately forming a bond with him, as recounted by a senior police official quoted in TOI.
