The global Ayush market, led by India with a remarkable Rs 4.5 Lakh Crore valuation, reached a significant milestone as Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Centre of Excellence on Panchakarma at the State Ayurvedic College & Hospital in Guwahati. This inauguration also marked the opening of the renovated State Pharmacy within the campus.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Ayush Sonowal, expressed immense pleasure at being part of the Ayurvedic college, commending its role in imparting education on Ayurveda and producing numerous Ayurveda experts. He acknowledged the college’s contribution to reinforcing patient care and the medical sector in the state.

Highlighting India’s leadership in revamping traditional medicine globally, Minister Sonowal credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for steering this transformative journey. He emphasised that under Modi’s leadership, India has not only revitalised its age-old heritage but has also upgraded the Ayush system of medicine to contemporary standards with empirical evidence. This shift has propelled traditional medicine beyond its regular geography, reaching a wider global population.

The newly inaugurated Centre of Excellence on Panchakarma and the renovated State Pharmacy were lauded by Sonowal as vital additions that equip the college to play a pivotal role in the resurgent Ayush global wellness movement. Panchakarma, regarded as the elixir of modern life, was highlighted for its positive impact in reducing stress and its adverse effects on both the body and mind. Minister Sonowal expressed confidence that the benefits of this Center would not only reach students and experts but would also percolate down to patients seeking the advantages of Panchakarma.

The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of key dignitaries, including Health & Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta, MLAs Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Atul Bora, and Siddhartha Bhattacharya, alongside Ayush experts, top officials, teachers, and students.

Union Minister Sonowal continued his address by elaborating on the significant strides made in the Ayush sector under Prime Minister Modi’s visionary leadership. He highlighted the sector’s growth from a modest ₹24,000 crore before 2014 to a remarkable ₹4.50 lakh crore globally. The minister attributed this success to Modi’s efforts in popularising Yoga and Ayush systems, making them widely accepted among the masses.

Acknowledging the impact of these initiatives, Sonowal mentioned the establishment of new Ayurvedic colleges, Ayurvedic hospitals, and major capacity-building initiatives. Notable projects included the 100-bedded Yoga and Naturopathy hospital in Dibrugarh and around 500 Ayush wellness centres set up in Assam. Additionally, capacity expansion in Ayush institutions in Pasighat and Shillong was highlighted as a significant step in bolstering the Ayush sector in the region.

Ayush Minister Sonowal expressed confidence in the Government Ayurvedic College’s role in expanding Ayurvedic education and medical systems in the region in the days to come. The minister’s address celebrated the achievements of the Ayush sector under Modi’s leadership, positioning India as a key player in the global wellness movement.
