An unsettling incident unfolded on February 8 in Landhaura, Uttarakhand, near Roorkee, as a 60-year-old man named Hamid was reported to have electrocuted his 52-year-old wife, Khatoon, in their residence. According to Hindustan Live, the tragic event stemmed from Hamid’s suspicions regarding his wife’s alleged extramarital affair.

Residing in Budhana, Uttar Pradesh, Hamid confessed to the gruesome act and turned himself in at the local police station shortly after committing the homicide. The police promptly took him into custody upon receiving a murder report filed by his son, Nadeem.

The shocking incident took place during the early hours of the day, while Hamid, Khatoon, and their 6-year-old daughter, Shabnam, were asleep in one room. As per reports, Hamid allegedly inserted one end of an electric wire into his wife’s mouth and connected the other end to an electrical outlet, resulting in Khatoon’s immediate death from electrocution.

Hamid’s surrender to the authorities on the same night shed light on the harrowing crime. He cited doubts regarding his wife’s fidelity as the motive behind his actions. Subsequently, Hamid was arrested, and Khatoon’s body was sent for post-mortem examination.

Naveen Chauhan, the police in-charge, confirmed that Hamid’s suspicions led him to take his wife’s life. The family members, including Shabnam, were reportedly unaware of the incident until Hamid approached the police.

Family members revealed that Shabnam witnessed her father’s attack on her mother but remained silent out of fear for her own safety when threatened. Consequently, the family only learned of the disturbing incident after the perpetrator surrendered to the police.

Upon receiving information from an informant, Haridwar SSP Pramendra Dobal mobilised a special team to apprehend the suspect. Acting swiftly, the police arrested the individual from the Landhora area and recovered the wire used in the heinous crime.

Subsequent police interrogations unveiled that the accused harboured deep-seated trust issues with his wife, leading to frequent altercations between them. “The victim succumbed to electric shock, and her husband is currently under interrogation,” stated a senior officer of the Haridwar police. The suspect confessed to suspecting his wife’s fidelity, which exacerbated tensions in their relationship.

As the investigation unfolds, the community is left grappling with the tragic consequences of suspicion turned deadly within a family unit.
