In a major success for the security forces, as many as three active cadres of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) has surrender before the police in Maoist-affected Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, January 14.

The surrender took place before the Dantewada district police, where Local Operational Squad (LOS) commander Ganga along with his two associates identified as Muchaki Muda and Eta Kudam respectively, turned themselves before the police and surrendered.

According to the information received, all the surrendered cadres were indulged in the recent encounter with the security forces occurred in December last year. It’s been learned that one of the surrendered cadre Ganga was carrying a bounty of Rs5 lakh on his head.

All the surrendered cadres were actively working in the Katekalyan Area Committee of the proscribed CPI Maoist who decided to part ways with the banned organisation after getting impressed by the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the administration.

The surrendered Maoists will be provided with all the possible assistance under the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the government, according to informed sources.

The surrender occurred under the Lon Varatu (An appeal to come back home in Gondi dialect) campaign, a flagship scheme being run by the district administration under which more than 600 former extremists have already shunned the path of violence by joining into mainstream.

The development occurred days after the Bastar Inspector General (IG), Sundarraj P, asserted that the spread of the Naxal outfit is reducing by each passing days and the forces in recent years have made inroads into the erstwhile Maoist territory.

Speaking with the media, the Bastar IG informed them that the forces has been able to cut the supply network of the Maoist, while their recruitment drives has also been reduced drastically.

“The routes like Basaguda to Jagargunda, Chintalnaar, Kistaram, Chintagufa Barasore which were earlier disrupted by the extremist has been re-opened after establishment of Security camps while the banned outfit has been also facing a serious leadership crisis as many of their top commanders or leaders are either killed in encounters or have died due to illnesses”, added IG Bastar.

Ongoing campaign against the extremists

In other news the forces in neighboring Bijapur district have arrested as many as three lower rung cadres of the Maoist outfit. The arrested cadres were all members of the Jan militia group of the extremists and were involved in the incident of arson, suggests reports.

It is to be noted that earlier in a similar operation launched in the forest of Bijapur, the security personnel had also neutralised a Jan Militia commander of the outlawed Maoist outfit on Friday, January 12

According to the reports, the encounter occurred under the Pusnar forest area under Gangloor police station limits of Bijapur where a Maoist commander identified as Toya Potam was killed. It’s been learned that a number of Maoist cadres also received bulled injuries in the said encounter.

The deceased Maoist commander was carrying a bounty of Rs1 lakh on his head, the gunfight took place when the personnel of Central Reserve Police Force and District Reserve Guards were out on an area domination exercise.
