ABVP’s 69th National Conference: Showcasing Bharat’s ancient legacy

The main Sabhagar of the 69th ABVP conference was named after Madan Das Devi ji. There were three main exits- Mihir Bhoj Dwar, Suraj Mal Dwar and Pandav Dwar, which was also the entrance of Sabhagar. The background of the stage depicted various achievements of Bharat and its legacy. The background of the first day was about Vaidik Era to emerging Bharat, showing the success of the Chandrayan mission, Global acceptance of rupees, Bharatiya architecture and achievements of athletes in recent years. Painting of Swami Vivekanand, Ahilyabai Holkar, Rani Durgavati, were at the centre of Sabhagar.

As thousands of Karyakaras from different states were participating in this mega conference, a total of 12 Nagars were established for their accommodation, which were Sant Gyaneshwar Nagar, Ahilya Bai Holkar Nagar, Lachin Barfukan Nagar, Bhagavan Birasa Munda Nagar, Madan Mohan Malviya Nagar, Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, Maharana Pratap Nagar, Gurunanak Dev Nagar, Subrahanyam Bharati Nagar, Bhagvan Vishvakarma Nagar, rani Durgavati Nagar, Rani Laxmi Bai Nagar and Rani Maa Gaidinliu.

Total Number of Volunteers

According to Harsh Atri, State Secretary, ABVP Delhi, Karyakartas were involved in the preparation of this event for the last two months. More than 2000 Karyakartas were involved in this process. Bhumipujan ceremony in DDA ground Burari, Delhi, was held on October 27, 2023.

During this conference, Dattaji Didholkar Pradarshani (Exhibition) remained the centre of attraction. This exhibition was based on various sculptures and eight themes. Sculptures were made by Karyakartas and students from various students across the country. Mangarh Dham, Sanoli Rath, Murti of Bhagwan Natraj, Sculpture showing various Ayams of ABVP, and two more sculptures which come under vishva guru themes, one representing recent achievements of Bharat and the other one showing historical legacy of Bharat.

Significantly, Sanoli Rath is based on 5,000 years old Rath found in excavation by an archaeological survey of India in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district, which is said to be from the time of Mahabharat. Mangarh sculptures are the symbol of courage of 1500 people from the Vanvasi community from Bashvada, Rajasthan, who were martyred fighting the British a hundred years ago. Ayam Karya Gatividhi sculpture depicts four Gatividhi: Rashtriya Kala Manch, Student for Sewa (SFS), Student for Development (SFD), and Khel. Sculpture comes under Vishva Guru themes were depicting the recent achievement of Bharat and the legacy of ancient Bharat.

Now, coming to the eight themes, which were Rashtriya Ekatmata, Vishvaguru Bharat, 350 years of Hindavi Swarajya, Swadhinata ki Gaurav Gatha, Delhi ka vastavik Itihas, ABVP Ka Amrit MAHOTSAV, ABVP Vartaman, ABVP’s Ayam Karya Gatividhi.

Rashtriya Ekatmata reflects brotherhood and a sense of belonging among the people; Vishva Guru Bharat points out how Bharat has guided the world in different periods and ages, 350 years of Hindvi Swarajya is about the life of Shivaji Maharaj from his childhood to coronation day, Swadhinata ki Gaurav Gatha narrates the epic saga of relentless struggle, courage, and sacrifice of people for the sovereignty of Bharat, Delhi ka Itihas pointed out that the history of Delhi is not four hundreds years old, but it carries the history from Mahabharat period which is 5000 year old, ABVP ka Amrit Mahotsav is about the 75 years journey of ABVP since 1949, which carries the ABVP’s struggle, discipline, social work and student activism, ABVP Vartaman informs present initiatives, Movement and social work of the organisation, Ayam Karya Gatividhi shows the dynamic and versatile approach to engage students in various dimension of the society.

Here, it is worth mentioning there were 24 small and one big mural about Bharat’s ancient technology, architecture, dwellers, philosophy, the valour of freedom fighters, cultural diversity, etc. The bigger one is about Asht Pradhan Mandal of Shivaji Maharaj.

There were two more walls. One was about ABVP’s dimensions, and the other was a painting made by prisoners of Tihar Jail. Ambuj Mishra, National Media Co-convener, ABVP, said that he and his team have been involved in media communication and management of the event for the last four months. For this, 60 students were given internships to manage this event., which was for 45 days, to learn, experience and find career opportunities in the media sector. He further said that this year, the space of the media centre for this conference was also specially planned and managed by the student’s team only. A dedicated podcast team, content writing team, social media team and video team having students were also introduced to engage with a large section of youth.

Solid waste Management

Imteyaz Jaleel from Bhopal, who was working on zero waste management for this conference for the last month, said that ABVP decided not to use single-use plastic during this conference. As a result, more than two lakh plates and two and a half lakh bowls made from Banana’s leaves were used. Three lakh Glasses made from paper were also used. According to him, these plates were also collected and recycled every day. Green waste were sent to Gaushalas. Waste of biomedical was instantly being sent to biomedical facilities. Two separate water tanks were also made for drinking and grey water. Sitting arrangements were made from wasted tyres, and relaxing chairs were made from Computer Keyboard. Statues were made from Parali. According to Imteyaz, the zero waste management process was shown to Karyakartas, who came from different states. He further said that documentation of this process had been prepared, which will be sent to the Government of Bharat and other state governments. More than 100 students participated in the internship ‘kabad se Jugaad’ in joint collaboration with Delhi University Students Union and ABVP. In the internship, students made dustbins with waste plastic bottles and relaxing stools with discarded tires.
