Guwahati: In a startling turn of events, a mysterious explosion has shaken the Lichubari Army camp in Jorhat, Assam, casting a shadow over the region on December 14. The incident took place at around 7.30 pm, following closely on the heels of a recent grenade blast in Sivasagar district, has heightened concerns over the security situation.

The timing of this incident, in proximity to the recent grenade blast, has raised concerns about the overall security situation in the area.

Security forces near the site of the blast

Despite the intensity of the explosion, preliminary reports indicate no human casualties or injuries at this juncture. Swift response teams, including top police officers, are actively engaged at the scene, working to discern the circumstances surrounding the blast and to ensure the safety and security of the area.

Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, seeking to uncover the nature of the explosion and identify any potential threat to the region’s security. The successive targeting of security establishments within a short span has heightened vigilance among law enforcement agencies, prompting a comprehensive review of security protocols.

Security force on alert at the gate

Residents in the vicinity of the Lichubari Army camp are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities as investigations unfold. The government and security forces are expected to provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available.

Adding a layer of complexity to the unfolding situation, the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has claimed responsibility for the blast, as per some local media reports. ULFA-I, a known separatist militant outfit, has been previously linked to incidents of violence in the region, amplifying concerns over the security landscape in Assam.

This incident marks the third in a series of unsettling events, with two previous grenade blasts occurring on November 22 and December 9. On November 22, a grenade exploded outside the gates of an Army camp in Dirak, Tinsukia district, with no reported casualties. The most recent explosion transpired on December 9 at the 149 CRPF in Joysagar, Sivasagar district, where ULFA-I similarly claimed responsibility for both incidents.

The incidents of explosions targeting security installations raise serious concerns about the evolving security landscape in Assam, prompting a collective effort to address and mitigate potential threats. As the investigation progresses, the community remains on edge, awaiting further clarity on the circumstances surrounding the mysterious explosion in front of the Lichubari Army camp.

Alert security guards

As the situation unfolds, authorities are intensifying efforts to maintain security and investigate the series of incidents that have gripped the region in recent weeks. Stay tuned for further updates as the investigation progresses.
