Letters to Soldiers: Initiative for students to make them proud of the Bharatiya Army

Nowadays, most students try to learn new things through different platforms. Art, crafts, and planting a tree, along with games and sports, are areas in which students are usually interested. Students could learn about his/her country in schools. Students usually learn, know, and imbibe the ancient Indian way of life, history, richness of culture, and ethos through social science textbooks. National education policy has a collective effort to teach students new things, especially regarding war stories and battles that the great Kings of Bharat fought. Students must also know the Kshatra Parampara of Modern Bharat. They need to know how Indian soldiers defeated Pakistani troops in 1948, How the Indian military helped Bangladeshi liberation, the Valour of Indian army men during the Indo-China war, the Kargil war, etc. Our students should know about our Soldiers with pride in their hearts. He or she may feel proud about his/her military establishment. Above all, through all these experiments, students develop a sense of nationalism and a high level of Patriotism in their hearts. Most of the time, all these exercises require some help from social organisations; only this could help to fulfil this.

Samruddha Byndoor, an organisation from coastal Karnataka, came up with a special initiative. The initiative helped to instil nationalism and a patriotic sense among students and made students write letters to the soldiers on the eve of Deepawali. Among many of its initiatives – A cleanliness drive at the beaches and public places, helping local talent, and employability training for women are the few tasks taken up by this organisation. Recently, as a part of Deepavali festivities, it took a special step to instil nationalism and an acute sense of Patriotism among school children- “Sainikarigondu Patra”, which roughly translates as a letter to my soldier. Students studying in classes 8, 9, and 10 participated in the special letter-writing campaign. Samruddha Byndoor provided postal cards to all these interested students. Students from nearly 100 schools were chosen and heard a few stories about our soldiers and their courage and Bravery.

After learning about the Bravery of our soldiers and their sacrifice, about 1000 students from different schools wrote letters in Kannaḑa, Hindi and English. As we know, on every Deepawali, our Prime Minister meets our soldiers at the border and celebrates Deepawali̤ with them. They would be served with different delicacies and sweet dishes on that day. By selfless service, soldiers make us safe and secure. More youngsters must know about our proud sentry.

Knowing about the duties of soldiers and their Bravery and listening to the milestones of the Bharatiya Army are ways to know more about them. At a young age, students must know about their proud defence establishment, different regiments, and specialties. According to Samruddha Byndoor, students became very keen to know more about the Army after writing letters to beloved soldiers. Most of these young minds wish to serve their motherland with an army cap on their head.
