Residents of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar on Friday, December 1, against the killing of three innocent tribal (Janjati) men in insurgency-hit Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra by the Maoists (Naxal). More than a dozen people holding banners and posters gathered near the entertainment of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada Vidyapeeth and protested against the killing of Dinesh Gawde, Ramji Aatram, and Lalsu Velda by the Ultras.

Protest against the anti-democratic Communist Maoists read the banner erected in the protest. Alongside the banners, the people in the protest were also seen holding posters that read ‘down with naxalism (Maoism)’. The protest was organised by the Vivek Vichar Manch, a nationalist civilian body working in Maharashtra.

Taking to X (twitter), the civilian body wrote “that the Maoists killed three tribal brothers in Gadchiroli district. In protest of these murders, Vivek Vichar Manch protested at the entrance of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University and paid tribute to the dead citizens.”

“It is the duty of every constitution-loving Indian to condemn the anti-humanitarian, anti-social, Communist Maoist movement that killed three tribal brothers in Gadchiroli district in the last fifteen days. The victims should get justice. Strict action should be taken; read another tweet.

Civilians killed by Maoist

It is to be noted that the Maoist-affected regions in Chhattisgarh and adjoining regions of Maharashtra, Telangana, and Odisha have witnessed a huge surge in incidents of civilian killings by the Ultras, where more than a dozen civilians, including political workers, have been killed in the last year alone.

Earlier in a fateful incident of targeted killings by the Maoists, a youth identified as Ramji Chinna Aatram, a resident of Kopewencha village of Kanker district of Chhattisgarh near the Maharashtra border, was brutally murdered by the Ultras on Friday, November 24. The incident occurred after the Maoist in a Janadalat (Kangaroo Court of the Naxals) held Ramji guilty of passing information to the police, following which they hacked him to death.

According to the reports, after the murder, the Maoists threw Ramji’s body near the village road, and the Ultras also left a leaflet near the body of the youth, accusing him of being a police informer. In the leaflet left by the Maoists, they alleged that Ramji had passed crucial information to the police in September 2022, leading to the death of an Area Committee Member (ACM) of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist).

The Ultras in the leaflet have further alleged that after the Surajkund Conference, continuous assaults are being carried out against the movement, and the police are luring the locals to become informers.

In another incident, cadres of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), armed wing of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), brutally killed a Patel (village head) of the Totoda village under Jambia Gram panchayat of insurgency-hit Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra.

According to the reports, armed cadres of the PLGA barged into the house of village head Lalsu Vedada (63) on Thursday night and shot him dead. It’s been reported that the Ultras also thrashed a youth and a few children before fleeing the spot. They also left a leaflet on the spot accusing Lalsu for working as a police informer.

In the leaflet left by the Maoists, the Gadchiroli Division Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist), while taking up the responsibility for the brutal murder, has accused Lalsu for conspiring with the police and the Surajgarh mine owners. The Maoists in the leaflet have further alleged that Lalsu was on the front foot in luring the locals to work in the mines for money. The Ultras have also accused the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Hedari and a few local politicians for conspiring against the locals and looting the mineral-rich region.

Deceased Lalsu Vedada – left, pamphlet left by Maoist- right

The Maoists in the leaflet have asserted that the Hedari SDPO and a few politicians are agents of the company owners, and they have taken lakhs of rupees from them for protection. In the end, the Maoists, while accusing Lalsu for passing crucial information to SDPO, have also warned others of dire consequences if they dare to follow Lalsu’s suit.

It is to be noted that the Lalsu murder occurred days after the Maoists killed an innocent tribal man in Bhamragarh of Gadchiroli. The deceased was later identified as one Dinesh Gawde, a resident of Laheri. The Ultras had also left a pamphlet near the body of the deceased.
