A case of ‘triple talaq’ and dowry has been reported from the Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. The victim lodged an FIR against her husband and in-laws alleging harassment and triple talaq. They even attempted to strangulate her to death. The accused husband asked the victim woman to satisfy his brother and brother-in-law and when she refused he threw her out of his house. Later, reached her place to put forth the condition of having halala done with the same brother and brother-in-law. When she refused to adhere he gave instant triple talaq.

This incident took place within the jurisdiction of Katghar police station in Moradabad. The victim, a resident of the Karula area, filed a complaint against her husband and his family. Acting on her complaint, the police filed an FIR on Sunday, October 22nd.

As per the complaint, the victim got married to a youth from Sambhal in February of the previous year. Shortly after the wedding, her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law began subjecting her to dowry harassment. Her brother-in-law and husband’s brother-in-law also behaved inappropriately towards her. When she confided in her mother-in-law, she was threatened into silence. The victim was told, “If you want to stay here, you’ll have to comply with everyone’s demands.”

Meanwhile, the victim’s husband recorded explicit videos of her, which he later used to blackmail her. The victim also stated that due to continuous torment, she gave birth to a premature baby who tragically passed away. On August 30 of this year, the victim’s in-laws forcibly expelled her from their home after subjecting her to severe physical assault.

Following her expulsion from her husband’s residence, the victim sought refuge with her parents. However, on September 10th, her husband, accompanied by ten individuals, visited her parents’ home in an attempt to forcibly take her back. When she refused, he caused a disturbance. The victim claimed that he attempted to strangle her with a scarf (Dupatta) and subsequently pronounced triple talaq.

During the incident, the victim alleges that her brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s husband were also present. Her husband reportedly urged them, “You both also satisfy your desire, will get her Halala done.” Following this, the two allegedly attempted to forcibly undress the victim, who managed to escape. The police have since filed a case, and an ongoing investigation is in progress.
